after much research and review I still cannot decide which clutch/flywheel combo to choose. ive read alot of good things about the RPS max clutch. ive also looked into ACT, exedy, os giken, and spec among others. ive also been looking into getting an aftermarket flywheel. there are several companies making them but im unsure of which one to choose. any help would be awesome. currently i am running 12 psi with a fmic, full exhaust, intake as well as a few other things. not sure what kind of power im putting down but id like something that will support these mods and then some as i will be doing a turbo upgrade shortly. thanks
i have exedy flywheel and seemed good. rps is for daily driving car and i think is good to 400 sum hp. and torque. act is alot more stiffer and catches harder. don’t quote me on this, its wut i’ve been told. i am puttin in a act clutch, i can let u know how it is in a week or to
I have an act unsprung 6 puck and it crabs hard…if you want a nice daily driver clutch buy a rps max street.
i was looking into getting the rps. but for 600 dollars? i can get an ACT one for about 400-450. not sure which way to go.
What are your guys’ opinions on light flywheels for daily driving? Decent performance improvement when it comes to acceleration? Flywheel reliability in the long run?
I got my RPS from Autodream for just under $500 shipped.
really? i will have to look into this further.
allthough i have never been in a car with a light weight flywheel i have read that acceleration is improved alot, but your rpms drop so much faster while shifting.
Yeah, I’m not really worried to much about that.
I was more curious about spool in the lower gears and long term drivability: since the flywheel is lighter there is less mass to sink the heat.
I hear the RPS flywheels are pretty sick though… way ahead of Fidanza’s offering.
flywheels do absorb some clutch heat, but most aftermarket ones are chromoly steel, and are way less prone to heat stress than a stock flywheel.
i have a JUN 13 lb flywheel on my CA with a Zoom 6-button sprung disc and heavy duty pressure plate. i was worried it would be too grabby for the street, but it works well. if you have excessive chatter from a stiff clutch setup, you might want nismo engine mounts and transmission mount. with a lighter flywheel, you’ll notice alot more driveline vibration as well, so keep that in mind if you like a quiet car.
I have heard some horror stories about ACT clutches. Just spring the extra few bucks and get the RPS.
the rps clutch does not come with the throwout bearing or pilot bushing. the act clutch kit comes with everything needed. im assuming and 240sx pilot bushing and bearing will work for my car. can someone verrify this please.
Yes and yes. The clutch fork pivot is also the same as KA. Change it out while your tranny is out. Could save you some trouble down the road.
Yes the 240sx bushing and bearing will work. However even if i bought a clutch that came with it i would probably just throw them away. The bearings and bushings that come in ACT kits are horrible and there are always stories of people replacing them about 2 weeks after a clutch job
Also the bearing and bushing are about 25 buck together from nissan so it makes almost no price difference
Go ACT if you want. If you are getting the 6 puck style have fun driving it on the street, or if you go full disk don’t drag race or dump the clutch to much.
rob sell him your clutch and you can buy my twin disc…
there’s a thread on nicoclub about the RWD SR20DET flywheel and clutch setup working, as long as it’s a single plate/twin plate setup. find an OS Giken or nismo set. www.perfectrun.com.au
i think im going to go with the rps max street clutch. from everything ive read it sounds like a good clutch. would any flywheel work with the clutch or is there a certain one i shoud be looking for. im thinking of going for the rps flywheel or the act streetlite flywheel. theres also os giken and fidanza among others.
