x2. i’m trying for a long weekend trip there this year. i’m hoping that’s a little less than the cost of a trip west.
they make boards up to like 172 cm… boots might be a little tricky though.

board width might be even more of an issue. I know toe-drag sucked when I boarded.
screw killington. If you know where to stay, or have friends in the area, you can do CO. just as cheap. The terrain / snow in CO can’t be touched by anything on the east coast… Trust me. I’ve been around to Tremblant, Killington, etc. Nothing compares to the west.
ninja edit: that is as far as US skiing or maybe even North American skiing. I’ve heard great things about Chamonix, but that’s a whole different ball game.
i have a friend moving to A-basin but not until next summer  so i’m just sucking it up until next year when i can get some free lodging. i spent a week in lake tahoe this year and i’d have to agree, theres really not anything on the east coast that compares.
we have friends in boulder, so it’s still a bit of a drive to a-basin, loveland, breck, copper, but it is so worth it.
btw, a-basin is absolutely sick. We drove up during the tail end of a storm. I thought I was going to die. Then we actually see them bombing IN BOUNDS shit . No kidding, avalanche patrol in bounds. The only place that I’ve ever seen stuff that made me wonder if I could drop it and survive. Absolutely sick. 18"+ of fresh. It was amazing.
dang, I want to ski now…
I havent been out west in a while… I boarded Vail, A-Basin, Keystone, Breck, Beaver Creek, and my fav place of all… Jackson Hole… has to be the best skiing in the US, IMO…
Second on Jackson Hole. I also like the Utah resorts. Never have been in A-basin to board; have mountain biked there but hear it’s awesome in winter.
I like Stowe better than Killington, but the whole atmosphere of Killington is nice if you’re up for a party. Long-ass drive to get there, though. If you can catch Killington during a storm, it is on par with a lot of west stuff. Normally, though, it’s too icy. I stay more at Pico than Killington a lot because it’s less crowded and has some good runs. They are supposed to be connecting the two soon so that should be cool.
I want to do Whistler/Blackomb. Hearing good things.
quoted for truth.
I’ve hit pico before and could definitely see the appeal there. Some nice runs and way less crowded. Again, was super icy when I went though.
I have never had a bad day out west. Last time I was in CO, we skied breck for 2 days and it was 60 degrees each day. Skipped a day to hang in Boulder then got crushed with 18 inches that night and hit a-basin the next morning.
I’m trying to set some stuff up with some friends for out west fun. I was thinking Squaw or Snowbird, maybe Hood / Timberline. Any suggestions? We want to leave Colorado and try some other places this time around.
also, I would be down for some park skiing if you guys don’t mind a two-planker heading out with you. I can hold my own and really want to work on pipe skiing this year
I only started snowboarding 2 years ago. Skied all the way up to that point, so I have no issues with skiers. All that hater bullshit is stupid between the two forms. I can see why people from both camps hate the other, though. Morons on both teams ruin it for everyone.
I suck in the park; that’s why I won’t get bored. I’m up for it.
I love skiers… I skied for 4 years before I started snowboarding about 10 years ago… I actually only snowboard with like 2 or 3 other people, the rest ski. Its all in the fun…
it’s on then! I like riding with boarders in the park because they seem to push me more. All of the good freeskiers up there are like 16 and frankly, at 28, I just can’t hang. Sure I can spin some, but I go all retarded off of anything bigger than 8’ and spinning more than 3, lol.
another 8 weeks and springs might be blowing snow
Gotcha beat by a few years… it’s fun smoking kids half my age on the downhills; I love to carve.
Parks are something to make me feel like I’m a kid again, except for two things:
I don’t push myself and don’t do anything anyone else would even claim as wicked. I don’t do rails because I don’t want to beat up my board and I really like sharp edges for downhill.
But I wouldn’t mind tossing a few back and seeing if I can at least get a foot off the ground. If I’ve got others around to help laugh with me I’m sure I’ll do more. My wife won’t hit the park so I’m usually on my own in there.
this year in tahoe we did Heavenly, Kirkwood, Squaw, and Alpine Meadows. Squaw was my favorite by far, but i wasnt disapointed with any of them. we had 60 degree weather and 0 snowfall all week, so i cant really speak to the powder conditions, but based on what i saw, i’m sure it would be amazing.
Heavenly was a little touristy though
excellent info! when did you go? I’m guessing april by the sounds of it.
totally can’t wait to shred it up! I’m usually found in the bottom stowe bumps, one of the parks, or dropping trees when there is actually natural snow.
Its going to be nice this year with the high speed 6 man on Gunnar. I love taking tree runs… I like the parks also, not really a rail fan, I want to be able to have kids someday and I also like my skull intact! I like the 1/2 pipe, esp the one on north face, but that new Super Pipe is something else, reminds me of out west. Its definatly scary, anyone hit it up this last year?
yep. that thing was a monster and the wall ride that was there was pretty crazy too. I never hit the top of it but it was fun trying! Definitely got wrecked on it pretty good too!
I’ll have to see if marks_lude can post some vid of the past season. He is on pitt’s snowboard team and they make a vid every year. I got to film stuff for them and they put a clip of me in. It was of me catching an edge dropping into that massive pipe. It was late march and super soft. Edge caught and I couldn’t free it before I reached the lip. ended up going 270 to left arm from about 15 feet. Blew my hat and goggles clean off. It sucked.
p.s. I owe a lot of my last season progression, specifically rails to him. He really pushed me and it was awesome to actually do stuff I wasn’t doing. I also realized that it doesn’t hurt as much to fall as I had been fearing.
Give it ten years. Just thinking about falling hurts anymore.
