Compustar remote starter

I have a Compustar cm4200 remote starter in an 03 vw jetta gl 5-sp. it is wired the correct way for reservation mode and everything works as its supposed to. the question i have is…can i arm the starter while i’m sitting in the car with it running, take my keys out, and walk away from the car with it still running. i dont need a turbo timer or anything, i just want to arm the starter and be able to take my keys with me while leaving the car running. i know this works in my truck, but its automatic. all i do is hit the start button on the remote, and it stays running when i take my keys out. the vw wont work that way…maybe b/c its a 5-sp?? any info would be appreciated

there is usually a proceedure for manual cars, mine is:

set ebrake, press brake pedal, press remote start button, turn off ignition and remove key, vehicle stays running. Open door and get out, close door and vehicle shuts off.

then you may remote start the vehicle.

if you unlock or open any door (and the dome light comes on) it will disable remote start (so the vehicle can’t be put into gear).

this is how the compustar should work, I have a different brand, but they all work with the same basic logic, do you have the manual for it?

my compustar in my 5 spd ranger goes

set ebrake, take foot off brake, wait about 3 seconds to hear a relay click, remove keys while truck stays running, then close the door and the truck shuts off and my security system is enabled

the lock button is usually the trigger to shut down the remote start, typically the starter running longer than 30 seconds after removing the keys disables the abillity to shut it down with the lock button.

hey guys, thanks but i think you misunderstand what i’m asking. the car does work with the procedure to put it into reservation mode (ready to remote start). set ebrake, take foot off brake, wait 2-3sec, take key out, get out, close door, and car shuts off. you’re right, if you open a door, then it wont allow you to remote start it for fear of somebody knocking it into gear.

what i’m asking is how to use the “continuation mode”. this is to leave the car running to run into the store but dont want to leave your keys in the car. i do this with my diesel truck when its cold out, b/c it take so long to warm up. i just leave it run, but i dont like to go in somewhere and leave my keys in my truck. all i have to do is hit the start button on the remote while the keys are still in the ignition and the truck is running. i wait for the module to do its start sequence, but it wont crank b/c it see’s a tach signal. so now the remote starter is engaged and i can take my keys out and leave the truck running in the parking lot.

I don’t think it works that way, mine doesn’t its some cheap crap off ebay, but I could never get it to do continuous mode, like you’re asking. I think its due to the manual transmission. You could call compustar’s tech line and ask them.

yea i tried calling them and i keep getting the same dumbass every time. he keeps talking about the turbo timer which is not what i need. my truck works just like i described, but its an auto. my car is a stick so i think it might be different. i think the box is looking for it to be in reservation mode before it will work the starter. and since the car never gets shut off (by the door), then it never sees reservation mode, thus it will not engage the starter box.
