So apparently I got a virus or spyware on my laptop last night and need help getting it off. I have ran AVG twice and it hasn’t found anything yet, it says I need to update the anti-virus database but it wont let me connect, when I try to get on to download windows defender or spybot it wont connect to that webpage but it will connect to other web pages like pittspeed. I downloaded sbybot from torrentz.com but when I install it in tries to link up to a server to download the files and it won’t connect. Another problem is when I google something and try to click on the link it opens a new tab and sends me to a different webpage.
Anybody know what kind of virus this is and how to get rid of it? or know something I can do besides take it somewhere? My sister-in-law just bought a new laptop and bought the new norton, im going to try to install that and see if it helps.
When it was acting up i tried restoring the computer from a later date and running avg update. The restore worked I think, no pop-ups but I still can’t install spybot still. I forget how to run safemode. I know its like f8 when after a reboot
Cant get on that website either. Pretty much whenever I get online to go to a website that has to do with spyware removal it blocks it and says the network connection was terminated. So right now im running windows live one care and it removed couple things but it wont let me remove this one trojan!! this is pissing me off, im afraid to go onto my bank accounts or credit cards…
if its XP, right-click on My Computer and goto properties. Click system restore and check the box so it turns off system restore. Reboot the machine and get ahold of SuperAntiSpyware (just google it, if you can’t download it, PM me on clubrsx and I’ll send it to you over aim). I have tried all the other ‘good’ malware removal tools and SuperAntiSpyware seems to be the best/fastest/most up-to-date that I’ve used in the last 6 months.
If you’re using Vista, its almost the same, right-click on My Computer then Properties. Click on Advanced System Settings then System Protection, then uncheck the drive(s) and tell it to turn off system restore.
If you leave these on while you’re trying to clean a trojan/malware. Everytime you reboot, windows will attempt to restore the files (even if you delete them) because system restore checks whatevers in C:\windowsdir\system32 folder at every restart and will restore it back to previous, even if you remove the files. Hackers/coders know this, so they store their virus files typically in those locations. Just giving you a heads up, if you need more help catch me on clubrsx and we’ll go from there.
This happened to my husbands laptop. It disabled Norton, and also wouldn’t allow access to any site that downloads spyware/virus removal or is an online removal site. I used the malwarebytes and superantispyware to remove whatever the heck it was. Had to run these both in safe mode and then normal mode. I had to uninstall Norton and reinstall it (norton 360) in order for it to run properly again.
I downloaded superantispyware and it installed but wont run. and I tried going onto that thread you sent me but of course it blocked it. ANd now it wont let me get on aim, so you guys can send me that file. YOu think you can send it to me through email? nickhoth@comcast.net
