Computer keeps turning itself on every night

My computer keeps turning itself on very night at 1:00:42AM. I’ve run the Event Viewer and it always tells me “wake source: unknown.”

I also ran: powercfg lastwake and that also gives me no information.

Anyone have any other ways to check and see what is causing this thing to wake up? I’m tired of coming out to a running computer every morning.

Unplug your usb devices tonight…

Vista? XP? 7? ME???

I would just do the registry fix and see if that works… Set your system clock to that time and test.

I am running Vista, and I don’t have anything plugged into the computer at night. It’s a laptop that I store under the couch when not in use.

sounds like the BIOS setting to wake the computer up at a certain time. probably at 1:00AM with a 42 second boot time. Check the BIOS.

Did you ever kill someone at 1am? It could be their spirit haunting you.

That’s my only suggestion, I don’t know computers.

Probably the same person stealing light bulbs from basements. Set up another computer with a webcam to watch your laptop.

Could be your girl is cheating on you and getting on chat at 1:00am when your sleeping, ask her.

How do I check the BIOS for boot times? I searched around in there but couldn’t find anything to do with it.

Definitely not the case. She has her own computer to cheat on me with.

1st thing that came to my mind as well. I would have said wake on lan but if the boot time is consistent it’s another setting in BIOS most likely.

I had the same sort of problem but mine was set where it would wake on LAN like Traderbase said and thats an easy fix

Check the task scheduler in windows to see if there are any tasks set to run at that time. There is an advanced setting to wake the computer to run a task. I’m guessing some A/V update or scan is scheduled with this parameter set.

Do you have smart meter on your house? The electric company is probably snooping on you

Im pretty if you check the system log you can figure out why it shut down.

It did it again last night. I checked everything in the task scheduler and nothing is set to go start anywhere near 1am, and again when I checked the event viewer the wake source is unknown.

How do I check or fix it in the BIOS?

Is the laptop plugged into your network or connected wirelessly? Vista didn’t support wireless wake on lan so if it’s a wake on lan thing it would have to be coming from a wired network connection. If it’s wired lan try leaving it unplugged from the lan tonight.

If it’s a bios auto-power up it would be under power management.

Moving the webcam to watch the driveway soon. lightbulbs have been safe but random things laying around the house have magically thrown themselves out.

I hate when my computer turns itself on, it’s awkward but I guess that’s what happens when it looks at porn all day.

A failing power supply can randomly turn on the computer.

I had the same problem. It turned on every night at the same time. It was a setting in my bios. I believe it was under “power management” and auto power on was enabled.

Ok I have been trying to get through to the power management in the BIOS but I can’t find it anywhere. Is there a specific way I have to access it? I have Insyde h2o rev. 3.5 as my BIOS.

The options I have at the top of the screen are: Main, Security, Diagnostics, System Configuration and Exit. From what I read online there should be an advanced option somewhere.
