Anyone know anything about tv tuner cards?
I was thinking about getting one but want to know if they work as claimed.

Yes.
can you watch tv “thru” your pc or just “on” your pc? I see a lot of them say you can record tv and such but I would want to watch the recorded stuff on my tv not on the pc monitor.
I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro and you can either hook up the cable directly to the tuner, or use the composite or S-video adapter and hook your cable box to it. It can record stuff to the pc, but my tuner or gpu does not have a dedicated tv out, so I can only watch it on the pc.
I was kind of shocked to see the OP being you. There are certain software titles out there that will record the incoming video source, but by default they won’t record out of the box due to copyright issues(gay i know). If you want to watch tv through AND on your pc it would be best to get a tv tuner card with a signal out…whether it be coaxial or rca is up to you
I would think you would be able to just hook a TV up just like another monitor and watch it like that if nothing else, right? I have HDMI outputs on my video card that I can use for a TV and such…
Match the video-out (Coaxial/HDMI/S-Video/Whatever) on a card with an input on your TV and you can watch the computer’s signal on your television. You just need to find a card with the right output.
I never looked into it before and never came across the issue at work. I know a good amount about computers, but not everything.
thanks for the input guys
I think my tv has an s-video input. I know it does not have hdmi or anything like that, it’s about 20 years old.
I have an ATI All in Wonder card also. you can record off tv with it
S-Video is better than coaxial as far as quality is concerned but your probably not too worried about it seeing that the tv is 20 years old…my video card has s-video out but i don’t use it because my monitor is high def…hdmi/coaxial/rgb/rca/and svideo inputs
Instead of buying a video card go with the SlingBox its FTW if you have digital cable. www.slingmedia.com is their homepage
I love my slingbox pro
i’ve use a cheapie $25 tv tuner for like 5 years. love it.
