Computer techs... dell adaptor data line short.

I was wondering if I can cut the data line and rewire it (possibly solder it). Can I or is it not possible? I’m sick of buying adaptors and I’ve got this one ripped apart.

wat? what do you mean data line? Pics?

Dell calls it the data line but its really the output cable that plugs into your computer. After bending and stretching over time the wires break internally so the computer only gets 70watts instead of the 90watts it needs the computer starts to fet a fault that indicates that the adaptor is not recognized and won’t charge the battery. Eventually the wire will short out and you’ll have no power. I’m trying to repair this.

data line? like, your cat5 line coming from the modem/router?

<—also confused. pics may be required.

edit:
you posted as i did. hmm.

ohh sorry I didn’t specify this is the a/c adaptor for a inspiron 8200 (laptop)

lol how is that a data line as there is no information in a ac adaptor. Check eBay.

Are up talking about the side that is attached the mother board? bending and pulling the wires loose?

Usually when this happens people can re solder them

They call it a data line because the adaptor has a unique Identification code sent throught the data line from the Dallas DS 2501 1-wire memory chip. Any way I just wanted to be certain that I can solder this.

Wow. There is a signal wire on some dell AC adapters, to ensure that you plugged the laptop into the proper adapter, and ensure you have to pay dell for a new one when it breaks. Beyond gay.
