Computer won't download anything, HELP!

So I’m trying to download a few things using Xtorrent on my mac, and it won’t let me download anything, i’ve used other programs too and they won’t download anything either. WTF?

I’m using my hotels wireless internet, is there anything special I need to do to allow me to download torrents?

Ports blocked?

some places block a whole series of ports that are known to be used for gaming, torrenting and shit.

anyway to change that? I’m so computer illiterate

The hotel probably blocks it.

In your torrent client see if your connectable and if your port is open.

Also can go to shields up to check a port scan to see if they are blocking it.

Ding ding ding… Hotels block that range of ports

EDIT: see

Attempting connection to your computer. . .

Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet!
Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!
One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that’s very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion.
Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.
All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

you should be able to download the torrent file itself just fine… but it wont connect to the torrent servers themselves to coordinate the torrent dl

Not usually how a torrent works. They are more P2P than from servers. As stated above the ports are more than likely blocked and unless you know how to access their hardware, you have a slim chance of opening the ports.

He is talking about downloading the torrent file with the server/file info in it.

Oh the tracker? Yeah that may/may not work. Sometimes I’ve seen µTorrent download the torrent even though the ports are blocked.
