Condominiums near Univ. of Pitt, good area or bad area?

So Ive decided to just break down and buy a place in Pitt as I’ll be there for 3-4 more years anyways but I have no clue where the good areas are and where the bad areas are. Ive been looking at condos in the Oakland area as the location to school is a big factor for me. Are these areas usually pretty calm or do they tend to have a lot of break ins and such? I really dont want to have to worry about my car getting broken into or worry about having nice stuff in my place in fear of someone kicking in my door.

there are some shady areas in oakland and some nice areas.

The one I like most is on Bellefield in between Bayard and 5th street

I couldnt tell you which areas are bad. You can just tell, if you know what I mean.

north oakland always generally seemed better. on the bus/shuttle lines so easy to get to class.

Just stay off the hill, once you get up that way you’re getting close to Hill District and other bad areas.

Bellefield (I’m assuming North Bellfield) between Bayard and 5th is basically RIGHT on the Pitt campus. Pretty nice part. Very close to Shadyside (which is a ritzy part of the city). It’s definitely not a slum or bad there. It’s not South Oakland (where a lot of houses are rented by students and its sort of slummy). If I was going to live on the campus, that’d be a hell of a place to look where you’re talking about, I think you’d be pretty happy there.

as Bravada said above^, i used to stay in south oakland right on Atwood st. by Mad Mex. definite shit hole. The nicest places are going to be in North Oakland off of Bayard towards Shadyside. Right now i stay on melwood avenue and its like a 10 minute walk to the cathedral on a bad day.

my sis had a condo in south oakland… except for like one street South oakland is fine… she bought her condo for 60k and sold it 4 years later for 120k…
