spent most of the day yesterday and most of the day today working on it. Got both rear quarters 100% ready for high-build primer-surfacer.
Also mocked the front bumper and passenger fender up so I could “flatten” the nose like I did on the other side…
Also, my paint gun arrived
DeVilbiss Startingline
Great progress!
when i was doing my own paintwork i was using a devilbliss…loved it.
I’m crunching, trying to be able to drive this to the letchworth meet. Checko is the fucking man btw, he pulled some strings on got me a wicked deal on dupont chromabase paint so now all I need is primer-surfacer and probably another quart of clear or so.
Someone has to buy his focus parts already!!
chromabase and chromaclear are awesome. you’re really going to love that gun.
OH MY DAYUM UPDATE!
Pirite came over just as I finished taping and bagging the car for paint, and helped me scuff the bumpers for sealer.
me mixing sealer:
car bagged, luke scuffing and prep-all’ing the bumpers
after all prep work, ready for high-build surfacer:
ACTION SHOTS YOOOOOOOO!!!111!!!11!!
after sealer:
Then sprayed both quarters in high-build, and taught luke how to lay some primer…I let him spray most of the driver quarter and then just passed over it to make sure coverage was good. He did pretty damn good for a first try!
then my phone/camera died and we didnt get pics of the passenger side. Poop.
sooooooo good
 great progess!
That is a nice gun. We use them exclusively at my work. Make sure to keep it clean and lubricate it!!!
I had a little time before work this morning so I went out and sprayed a guide-coat on the quarters so I can block them out with 400 grit tonight.
Did your wheels come in already?
Once I finish the passenger headlight I’ll drop it off tonight.
nope, I put in the order with Team Dynamics about 3 weeks ago, and it’s a 12 week wait from build to your doorstep. So I’ll be stuck with the stock wheels sunk in about 1.5" the rest of the season. I’ll worry about buying tires and mounting up the new wheels in the spring.
Nice progress and good meeting you last night!
Realized I never got a shot of the front bumper in sealer, so I snapped one on lunch break
Tonight I’m going to put wheels back on the car and roll it out of the garage, clean/sweep the floor to get all the heavy dust from all the filler/sanding work, wet the floor…and I’m planing on spraying base and clear on the hatch and both bumpers before bed tonight.
starting to spray panels is great news!
are giving the entire car a fresh paint job, or just those select pieces???
nice work… looks like it’s really coming along well.
I was originally going to paint the entire car, but I didn’t want to mess with the windshield and plan to wrap the roof in carbon fiber vynil anyways…so I’m painting the doors, quarterpanels, hatch, fenders, bumpers, and eventually the hood (but I have some major modifications in mind for the hood first). I’m going to blend/fade the base and clear down the area above the door so that I lose the paint line before I get to the windsheild and can just wetsand/buff the panel later and no one will ever know it was painted up there.
