I like it as it does seems a bit more pratical for the “average” Lotus enthusiast.
But, as far as the “What the Fuck is that” factor the Esprit, by far. It got a lot of looks last week Joe :tup: I had a lot of people come up to me and ask about it.
I bet most people who buy this car also have an elise or exige in the garage.
I like the shape of the car. I don’t really like the white interior. Would like to see a white exterior on black interior.
Didn’t those last few pics come out months and months ago?
I feel like the first one is the only new one.
Haha, try going for a ride in my car sometime. I have had people come to a dead stop in oncoming traffic lanes while i was making a left turn to talk to me about it… :picard:

the esprit might get more looks. older looking cars that are unique get more looks than newer ones. sort of like “oh cool, that new lotus is pretty” vs “wow why have I never seen one of these before?”

I am sure that any lotus gets just as many “looks” as any vintage muscle car.
I dunno, I definitely gawked when I saw an Esprit in Bloomfield, but to the average person it just kind of looks like a “nice 80s sports car.” Compare that to the Exige/Elise/Evora which all look in one way or another like a Porsche-designed moon people rocket ship.
I definitely see more people gawking at the latter, especially non-car people.
yeah that’s all true, I guess it depends on the person looking/approaching.
the evora is beautiful and most of all wide, I don’t like how the new lotuses (loti?) are so narrow.
What engine is in this?
i was fortunate enough to drive a lotus for a day and ill admit it breaks necks. although daily i have people asking me what my car is or just people staring at it. admitedly its for different reasons im sure. also its a much different demographic of people. this post sucks.

I definitely want to take a closer look at your Exige…as far as people stopping in traffic if they get railed watch them try to blame you. I have seen some wicked cars on RARE occasions around here. I can’t say I would stop in MID traffic to check it out I usually just say “Hey look an S7.” and the girlfriend says “What…?” then I say “Nevermind.”
Smart man. Usually I try to explain why the car is special and get one of a few canned responses. “That’s ugly.” “I don’t care.” Blank stare.
it looks good from every angle but the rear for me… looks odd for some reason, but overall i like it
what drives me nuts is when it’s a really crazy looking car (like an S7) and they just say “it’s stupid looking”

Yeah, I was explaining the concept of the Bugatti Veyron to her, and got everything all at once: blank stare at “Quad-turbo V-16, 1001 HP,” followed by, “You’re going to show it to me, aren’t you (sigh),” when I pulled out my iPhone, and, “Eww! That’s ugly,” when I showed her.
She also hates just about everything Lotus has ever made, the GT-R, etc.
She likes watching Top Gear, though, and kind of fell in love with the Ferrari California when Richard Hammond was driving it across the south of France listening to oldies. So she’s not all bad.
Word. Mine thinks rx8s are the prettiest things ever made but thinks rx7s are “too sporty looking” :meh2:
there are parts of it i def like, but def parts i dont like. to ME, lotus never seems to be able to “complete” a car. there always looks to be something “off”… to ME
Not that it’s going to make me feel any better about myself arguing this point, but I disagree.
I have ridden around in a few vintage muscle cars that were SUPER loud and modded, but never got the type of “looks” that the lotus get.
People have seen vintage muscle cars for 30+ years. Usually people acknowledge them and maybe wave, but after having my exige on the road for only 3 days, I have seen people make U-turns to catch up to my car. I’ve had people hanging out windows yelling. I’ve probably had at LEAST 30 pictures taken. I’ve had people pace me for MILES… It’s just insane.
At times I hate it, and just want to be left alone, but I guess it comes with the territory.
That said, I think a car like Joe’s Esprit would get more attention than the evora, because the evora looks like a lot of other cars on the road (350z and co.)

People see my car and wave, some will roll down their window and say nice car, I’ll get an occasional nod and smile, and once in a while I’ll have a conversation at a gas pump.
It’s the perfect amount of attention. People like it, or love it, but they’re not in love with it or obsessed with it, so they give a little attention and then get on with their lives.
