Corvette guys come in!

So in the near future I am goign to be able to get my hands on a black 1990 corvette, auto with about 70k miles on it, not a convertible. I dont know dick about corvettes. Is this corvette decent? Worth building up? This would be my first american rear wheel drive car, besides my fiero when I was 16. Any info would help!!

As long as you don’t over pay I guess its an alright car?

mehhh… not a fan of that style… i suppose if you got a good deal on it… but auto? corvette? 20 years old…? i can think of about 500 dif cars to spend the money on… hell… there was a 98 (c5) on craigslist last month… 12k dollars…

point being… the new ones are getting cheaper every year… and the styling is 10x more modern. buy a 6 spd anyway

My mom used to have a '90 convert and I would drive the snot outta that thing…this was back in '98. Car was an auto, good for about a 14 flat in the quarter, so nothing to brag about. Had a lot of fun driving it, cornered well. '90 was the only year of the C4 to have the newer interior that was in the '91-'96 models. Has the L98 which was the last year of this before the LT1 replaced it (rated at 245hp)

A friend of mine has a '90 that he has done some bolt ons to; exhaust, convertor, and gears. Moves out pretty good actually…I was a bit impressed.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the '90 Vette:) How much can you pick one up for???

its my wifes parents so I might pick it up

how much?

read about the common issues that they have. know what you’re getting yourself into well beforehand

Do a search here on “common problems” & “known problems” etc. you’ll have plenty to read.

It wouldn’t be that bad of a car to build actually.

  1. Post 96’ - You don’t need to have emissions on the car.
  2. Its an auto - Better for draging
  3. Many C5/C6 parts swap on- Such as brakes and wheels etc.
  4. You can get it at a good price -Since it was your parents

If it was me I would build a nice 383 stroker out of the 350. Put some heads and long tubes with side pipes. Put a nice shift kit and stall in the tranny. Leave the stock rear gears for now.
(Maybe 3-5K in parts)

Swap on C5 brakes. I have both the brakets and calipers if you want a set. Throw on a set of zr-1 rims with something in the 315/35/17 range out back.

rip some nice <1.8 60ft times and have a fun to drive 12 second car.

Plus there is a lot of aftermarket out there that helps the c4’s look very nice.

lol C4 is the epitome of an American Turd.

No, that was the C3, the 1980 California edition IIRC… 180 horse and a three speed auto…

smells like aqua velva and porn staches. :donotwant:

lol:biglol:

i meant aesthetically

Based on what??? The C4 helped redefine what the Vette was, and carried the Vette design cues from the late 60’s that is still evident in the C6.

I can think of several other cars that are deserving of the term ‘American turd’…

You hurt the C4’s feelings…

I guess it’s more about the perception.

I would say that a yellow C4 is probably the ugliest car that people think is cool. Ever.

Don’t do it to yourself man.

That I can agree with.

I had a C4, low miles mint condo. Sold it because I hated it. They handle great and are somewhat fast. But the problems that car had! My 86 Camaros were nicer cars then the vette. Tuns of electrical problems, little cheap things always broke, just all out expensive to upkeep and not worth the time. Also very unpractical. Only good for cruising in, cant even take it to the gulf course.

Yeah, the C4’s kind of bland, IMO. Looks like a doorstop

Best looking Vette ever

C2/C6 > C5 > C1 > C4 > C3
