Cost to have a car painted.....?

I did a search and couldn’t find any info on this… maybe i’m teh suck at searching because i thought this would’ve been covered before.

Anyway, my car was battered and bruised this winter.
Between sliding off the road to dodge a plow truck blindly backing out of a driveway, drunk bitches at parties leaving green paint down my entire driver’s side, and severely faded roof paint due to poor waxing upkeep from the previous owner (was a florida car for 7 years)… I just don’t think this stuff will “buff out”…
There aren’t any major dents, just a couple dings. The body is straight and there isn’t a speck of rust on the entire car (minus the rotors…hah).
I just want it to be clean and shiny, and a different color, if the price is right.

So the question is: what would be a ballpark expectation to pay for a whole car to be painted? What are some reputable shops, or do you know anyone who does damn good work privately??

Thanks in advance.

btw, it’s a Silver 2000 audi a4 1.8tqm.

ballpark?..between $500 and $5,000.

like most things though, you get what you pay for.

well then maybe i should clarify…

I don’t want a paint roller house paint job, nor am i in need of show-car quality.
I’m looking for a re-paint to factory quality.

and to further clarify my question/request…
Who has had a car painted; where, what was the cost, how did it turn out, and would you recommend to someone else?

mine is getting painted now for a good price i will let you know tomm.

if i had to guess, probably ~$2500 for a good repaint with the same color…not show quality obviously but not a crappy job either.

i’d like to know that info as well. I am also looking to get a paint job sometime this summer.

With me doing all the prep work, it cost $1300 to have the car painted. Came out great. So spend a couple extra bucks if you have to to get a good job done.

Don’t hire some hack that will screw you over in the end.

By the way, factory audi paint is far more expensive than most other domestic or foreign imports. You will pay for it.

75% of the finish comes from the prep work, don’t do it yourself if you are asking basic questions like this.

Go get some quotes… I am yet again amazed by the laziness of NYSpeeders and their desire to have horribly inaccurate information in place of 5 minutes worth of effort.

I didn’t say factory paint. I said factory quality paint job.

I never said i was doing the prep work myself… Hence why I am asking the basic questions.

And i suppose it’s not worth asking people who have actually had it done about their opinions or recommendations. Consumer reviews are, after all, pretty much worthless in today’s society, which consists of 100% honest businesses. Guess I’ll just flip open the yellow pages, find Bob’s Auto Shop, ask if they do good work and are worth the money, and take their word for it. :roll2:

having a bad day?

Sounds good, thanks.

calling a shop and asking how much it will cost isn’t such a bad idea. they will even give you options.
option a: shitty nyspeed noob paint job 750
option b: prep, tape off, same color 1500-2500 depending on prep
option c: gut car, prep, color change 5000+

walter is right

great.
why is it so hard to see that i clearly asked if anyone knows of a reputable shop in which to have it done?
Somewhere in this statement:

and to further clarify my question/request…
Who has had a car painted; where, what was the cost, how did it turn out, and would you recommend to someone else?

I somehow said i want a cheap paint job done by an ameture, and i’m going to do the prep work myself even though i don’t know what I’m doing?
this is ridiculous.
I got a few leads, thanks for the help. This thread can be closed.

Call up Licatas on walden across from swerve, i got my car painted there, (well i did it myself) but they have a booth and i know they paint, i dont know if they are busy or how soon they could do it but give them a call

I was replying to the thread?

Someone in here suggested doing the prep work.

And a factory quality paint job would use factory paint. You won’t get the proper match w/out it. I’m not talking about buying it from a dealer, I’m talking about what it is going to cost you to go to a paint vendor and purchase materials that will match the color on your car. If you want it a “close” color, then you can do that, but to get it to match it will cost much more being an Audi.

where are u located my dad has a paint shop ,only has one worker and they are both very picky and want everything right if you or them are unhappy with the turn out they will do it again for no cost… the only down fall is the shop is located in nf. otherwise he will have you drive the car down give u an estimate and you can go from there …

I’m going to agree with Toasty here and say this was a good start to getting his car painted. There are several posts about it though. They usually involve body work… or collision work, so you could search for that.

I don’t know anyone who does good work, only cheap work.

1000-1500 if you know some ppl. im somewhere in that price ranger now, I just want my car a nice solid color with no fading or anyhting

I’ve taken my silver Audi to Hoffman down here in the city for years now. THey do top notch work but he’s not cheep… I’m sure any of the guys that new what happend to my car this past winter will say it came out pretty good. There are a few very little spots that I am going to have him touch up, but he stands behind all his work… He’s also worked on other members cars on Dubsinthe buff.com. Do a search on there and you will be able to find some more info…
