Credit cards with "Blink" RFID technology

This is an article about Blink technology…

What about security?!?
No signature required?!?
The cashier never sees the card?!?
Am I missing something here?
Sounds like a great idea for thieves or hackers that can make these cards.

sounds like a great way to NOT be able to prove that it wasnt you that maxed out your CC in 10 minutes

rfid… bad things man, bad things…

but ya they are advertising these things on the raido 24/7… no signatire for under 20.00 i think

Under $20 makes a little more sense to me.

I have a love/hate relationship with technology.

I like running random CCs through the gas pumps… no sig, no ID, no care.

At this point, purchases under $15 don’t need a signature anyways.

But it seems like a useless technology gimmick to me. It’s for the droves of impatient people who want everything immediatley and can’t wait the 20 extra seconds it takes for a traditional CC transaction to go thru.

What about it? As long as the card stay in your wallet its secure. Just like any other credit card.

I don’t know of many places that even check signatures anymore.

With the little terminals at registers now, cashiers rarely ever see the card. Go to any Wegmans. I take my card out, scan it, and right back in my wallet before the cashier is even finished ringing up my items. They never see it.

Explain. I don’t think this is any harder or easier for people to take advantage of. Credit cards are pretty annonymous nowadays. You just have to hang on to them and make sure you don’t lose them.

The point is that the cashier shouldn’t see the card more than a glance. There are some very crafty people out there.

cashiers are minimum wage, nothing to lose punks.

not really, but most of them are. (insert stereotype)

Though we should be able to trust cashiers, we can’t, unfortunately. But they should ID you… check your name, face… and then check the name on the card… which they can get off the screen.

That’s just it it’s not just a matter of losing your card.
I am quite sure this technology can be duplicated by hackers.
Stores should be checking your signature everytime.
I realize they don’t but that just makes this technology that much more harmful.
In other words people are being conditioned to be less concerned about fraud/theft.
This just seems like an invitation for fraud.
Maybe the cc companies want more fraud because you know who is paying for it.
I guess I should just be glad I don’t pay those rediculous interest rates.

Delta wouldn’t take my CC cause I didn’t sign it… well I did, but it wore off. I’ve used that card hundreds of times, with no problems… and now years later I realise the card isn’t signed? WTF. All those cashiers… none of them checked for signature.

That sucks

lol not if you don’t have a screen.

I was just at Radio Shack and the guy told me the signature on his screen was like 10 times bigger so he could see it.
I don’t think places like WalMart use this technology though.:bloated:

I can see the technology evovling into the RFID talking to the cash register and popping up a picture of you that is stored on the circuits of the card. The cashier can then look at the pic and see that you are who the card says you are.

then you check the card… pretty simple concept.

If your worried about the cashier stealing your CC, or the number… then use cash.

I love having a credit limit… thats 1/2 my check

rfid… ok… where do i start… first move this to the nerd section…

did you guys ever see the ibm comercial where the truck driver was lost… and the help desk lady said “the boxes told us”…

think about every single product you buy… if everythign had a rfid tag… you litter in a park and 5 years later someone finds it, scans the rfid, and it comes back to your credit card for buying it… you will get fined for something you did 5 years ago… not saying that that example may be a little extreme… but the technology has a HUGE potential to be abused… you think that the nsa+patriot act is big brother now…

Well this is why they offer fraud protection.

Holy Big Brother!
You sound almost as bad as me. Almost.

Edit: In industry we have a phrase called from “cradle to grave”.
It means you are responsible for anything you dispose of even if you have someone else remove it for you. Example waste oil.
If you pay someone to take your waste oil YOU are still responsible for it if it ends up in lake Erie.

i used to sign my cc’s, but my signature always looks different. i had some store in the galleria call the cops on me because my sig on my card didnt match the one on the receipt

never bothered to ask me for id
cops show up … ask me for id … show them my license
sig on my license is fucking 10 years old … looks waaay different

thats the day i stopped signing my CC’s … and when they bitch i just tell them that story … and they ALWAYS accept it as a valid reason, lol

weird, but it works

I FUCKING HATE LITTER BUGS

I think if you knew that 5 years from now you would be held responsible for things you do now… then you would act more responsibly. Religion used to keep people in check… more and more people are losing their religion… (insert lyrics here)… people need to be held responsible for their actions.

Of course, if I disposed of the wrapper in a garbage can, then some bum was rummaging through it and the wrapper flew back out of the can… then I would be pissed, and probably kick the next bum I saw.

I don’t get it?
