Cross-Country Road Trip

Bump. Hit Chicago, Dearborn, and spent the night in the badlands. Woke up with a buffalo next to our tent. We’re on the way to Mt. Rushmore now, then off to Yellowstone. Pics to follow.

nice.

Very cool! You weren’t too far away from an old apartment of mine in your Ohio shots. Rushmore is cool, but Yellowstone is the shit, you’ll love it.

So, Justin contacted this guy Kurt that is a TDI guru, he set us up with the car, made sure it would be good for the rest of the trip. After he was done and test drove it, he decided he loved the way the turbo sounds without an exhaust and decided to cut his off. Haha. Super cool and honest guy, he really helped us out.

After that, it was off to the windy city. I thought that the fact that they had a McDonald’s drive-thru on the side of their toll bridge was super weird.

Then we biked around and explored the city, ate lunch in the park, and checked out some cool places in Chicago.

Ayo girl, you squirt?

After that, we stopped off to see a tourist trap made of corn.

And, it was off to the Badlands.

5 feet from this guy… Guess the sign doesn’t lie.

And, if you don’t believe he was real… I excited him, I asked him to dock.

If you ever have the chance to stop at Wall Drug, because it looks good after the 42,000 billboards… Don’t. Haha. Not worth the stop.

 reppin defend buffalo lol. Nice

Under a car with no jackstand? :nono: Getting crushed by a VW would be about the worst way to die.

Looks like a pretty cool trip so far.

So much to do in Chicago…great photos!

So what exactly did the car need?

Cool pics, have fun guys.

Offically sub’d

Awesome pics again. Laughed pretty good at bison boner.

Not sure I could ever trust a “guru” who worked under a car supported just by a jack.

So, we did Mt. Rushmore yesterday, then headed off to Yellowstone. En route, we stopped off at Big Horn National Forest, and it was definitely the best part of the trip so far. Huge mountains with insane valleys cut through them, all of the roads coming down the cliff were 25mph hairpin turns. Unfortunately, I didn’t take pictures of the good parts, it was already getting dark when we got to the other side and scaled down.
We’re going to hit the hot springs this morning, and check out Yellowstone for a bit. But, there is supposed to be a horrible cold front and a storm, and the temperature is supposed to be under 20 tonight, so I don’t know how well camping out in a snow storm will be.

So, the brown thing in the center of the picture…There was definitely a moose like 5 feet from us while fishing.

Very nice!

Yallah! Nice pictures, looks like a blast.

that bison was happy as shit to see you guys, rofl

huge balls or he really trusts his jack

So, the last couple days we camped Yellowstone, there was a cold front and they got 6"+ of snow. So, we probably chose a bad couple days to go, but it was a good time. We left yesterday night and trooped it 15 hours straight to Vancouver. Well, it was actually only 15 because we napped and got food.

Vancouver was really nice. I think it may be my new favorite city. Unfortunately, I didn’t take too many photos there. We are Seattle bound now, going to sleep there for the night, explore the city tomorrow, and then head south.

Good stuff

Failed to mention that we went bathing in a hot spring somewhere in Montana or Wyoming. I don’t really remember. But, there was this super legit suspension bridge that swung, and it was like 300ft long.

And, this is my car after driving through a hatch on the way to Vancouver.

Ive been keeping a close eye on this thread I know what its like driving across the the country and how much fun it can be. Especially in a haggard old tdi :stuck_out_tongue:
How has your Fuel economy been (now that you have a working odo :P)?
I look forword to the next batch of pics.

Awesome!

Awesome pictures, I actually experienced the corn palace when I was out that way for work. There were some really nice people in that area.
