so since I moved into my new joint a few days ago, I’ve killed 2 centipedes (they give me the f’n willies). One this morning was HUGE… I squished it with a paper towel and made the thing all wet chills and the other was yesterday.
so, before I end up with a big problem (I’ve heard they migrate like woah) has anyone here ever had a problem with them? Any reccomended products to help get rid of them?
From the little reading I did on them, I guess they stink something awful for a few weeks once you kill one and they travel by the hundreds. Any help appreciated.
Speaking of centipedes before my girlfriend moved in with me she had one in her old apartment that fell into a cup by her bathroom sink. She rinsed out her mouth one day after brushing her teeth and it got in her mouth. She didnt get stung or anything but i did refuse to kiss her for a while.
And by the way scorpions are way worse than spiders or centipedes.
rob, I would FLIP the fuck out if that ever happened… god damn. I’m not gonna be able to sleep at night now lol. I think it all depends on the scorpion too… I know some arent very dangerous (just give ya a little sting). This webpage I was looking at earlier said getting bit by a centipede was about the equivilant of getting stung by a bee or scorpion? (but some people are allergic to the venom and get pretty banged up from it)
I called the maintenence department and their looking into it. I hope to god they can take care of it… those things are freakin creapy. The one I killed today was around 7 inches long and slightly thicker than a bic pen
dont sleep with your mouth open, centipedes search out warm moist areas and its very common to have one crawl into your mouth while sleeping, especially if you have a bunch of them around.
Buy some bug bombs, put them in every room and leave for a few hours. My fiance’s old apartment was infested with the first kind pictured and those fuckers were quick. I hate centipedes.
BTW, the bug bomb will take care of anything that is currently in your place, but they are coming in from somewhere an probably will continue to do so.
[left]Centipedes are reddish-brown, flattened, elongated arthropods in the Order Chilopoda. They usually have between 30 and 80 legs with one pair attached on most of their body segments. The first pair of legs is modified into poisonous fangs (chelicerae) located below the mouth, they inject a poison which immobilises the victim allowing the jaws to macerate the body and the fluids to be extracted. Their antennae are longer than those of millipedes. They are totally carnivorous, feeding on live insects and other small animals, they do not damage plants. They may bite if crushed, causing some pain and swelling. A natural predator of vine weevil eggs and grubs, so leave them alone!
They overwinter as adults and lay eggs during the warm months. Usually eggs are laid in the soil and are protected by adults. A few species give birth to living young.

I will get pics of the next one I see… maybe it was a little smaller than 7 inches, but not by much (6" maybe). It’s not like I was gonna get out a ruler and a penny and snap a picture of it lol
