I have always called it deadman’s curve anyway. If you know 240 in Colden you know I mean the tightest curve in the area.
A while back they pretty much removed the “mountain” inside the curve which made me wonder what they were up to. Now they are in the process of making the curve much less sharp.
A few years ago I was going about 55mph through that 15mph curve when I passed a trooper going the other way. Sure enough he turned around and pulled me over and asked if I knew why he was pulling me over. Never admitting guilt I said, “I have no idea”. He said, “you have no front plate.” I was laughing because I almost said, “Because I was tearing up that curve back there?”
So yeah, deadman’s curve is not so fun… I mean deadly any longer.
Edit: Maybe they will make a little pull off so you can admire the waterfall that no one sees because they are hanging on for dear life.
There are PLENTY of signs, flashing lights, and even message signs now saying there is gravel, and irregular surface ahead, definitely will NOT be a surprise to anyone driving or riding down that way.
A friend of mine told me a story about that corner…
He was coming around the corner and saw a motorcycle rider leaning against the guardrail… puking his brains out… he looked a little further down the road, and saw a bike on its side. A glance to the right he saw a body, and a little further, a head…not attached to it’s body.
I remember a few years ago a Jeep (CJ or TJ) cut it sharp heading north, clipped the bank, popped over the guardrail, and landed in the water on it’s side…
