we mysteriously got this on our desktop last week - same symptoms. Couldn’t run any anti-spyware or anti-virus programs, IE and firefox hijacked. Windows reinstall with partition format fixed it up for me. This spyware/malware crap is getting annoying.
Stop installing shit and clicking on ads.
I suggest installing AdBlock Plus add on for firefox.

If this is the problem you are having, the fix is on the page. This will not remove the virus. But its a first step to being able to run and install software. I have come across this one 4 times. 3 of them were recoverable. one was not.

a guy I know also recently had this problem. He just reformatted. Pretty crazy that it’s infected that many people (locally)

Just shows how many people don’t know how to browse the internet without getting their computer infected.

and now it’s gone …
or that many viri (virus plural?)… most are relatively undetectable open gateways for tons of other viruses (Nope viruses is plural for virus).
spyware is no different.
