never mind
Proxy server not a different browser.
A new browser wont fix your filter. You need a SSL proxy server to send your connections through. That is the only secure way.
Yeah and when your IT guy sees a bunch of requests to a secure proxy server coming from your desk he might ask whats up.
So basically its not worth it? It sucks because I’m not the only one there, the bosses daughters come out and look up facebook shit
Sounds like your job sucks if they lock down the computer that much…
If they spend that much time monitoring what you do on the Internet, ask yourself one question. Do they do that to everyone or just you? You might find your answer in that answer.
Ok the best/safest way of doing this assuming SSH is not blocked and they won’t question ssh usage as well, setup ssh server on your windows PC at home there are quite a few free solutions and you can warez some of the commercial ones if you want but free ones will do.
Then at work use putty on a usb key and connect to your home pc via ssh. Once connected setup a dynamic socks proxy like so…
Clicked reply too soon, then setup your browser to use socks proxy to 127.0.0.1 port 9999 and you have tunneled traffic securely to your house.
One thing is if they are blocking ssh you can actually set ssh to listen on port 443 or 80 on your local pc and connect via those ports provided your ISP does not block them.
That is a great way but think that the OP is trying to use a different browser to hide his internet traffic. That might be beyond his ability to setup.
Any corporate network isn’t going to let you do this guys…
I’m not sure where he works, but there is no way that I could do this at work.
Also you might want to think that going around the internet filter my using a proxy or ssh or whatever is obvious grounds for violating the computer usage agreement, and grounds for termination.
Browser doesn’t matter if it is network level monitoring… they coudl be monitoring history files though in which case if you can find a firefox extensions for “private mode” that would work.
What I linked is easy to setup but makes some assumptions…
You are correct in you want to tread lightly in this area, I am a Engineer at pretty large enterprise and we don’t take well to people trying to get around our protections which are designed in many cases to protect users from themselves.
useing the internet for anything other then work related is grounds for termination
I was a network engineer for a county in NY. We build and maintained the network and had the ability to track any traffic on the network up to the application level. We never cared unless the person was downloading something illegal or pornography. The 911 call center even had P2P sharing programs on their computers.
If your company is asking you questions after you visit sites, they are actively monitoring and you might be in trouble if you are trying to go around it.
Maybe you should be working???
fuck all these other suggestions…Go research ways to hack a sonicwall proxy…be a hero at work.
I’ll be honest, I monitor all of our Internet access here at work. It helps keeping viruses out of the network and also helps reduce traffic on our stupid slow T1 line.
Here is a quote from a veteran network admin at the other forums I belong too.
SSH _will_work, given that you can meet all the assumptions in the first line of the first post.
That’s the biggest stumbling block. EVERY client of mie blocks SSH for security reasons. If you need it for a specific purpose, you petition IT/MIS and they may allow it, if it doesn’t violate SEC/HIPAA?DoD or other rules.
Second, your speed will be limited by the UPLOAD speed at your home system.
Third, if you get CAUGHT, you’re fired.
Somehow, it ain’t worth the trouble or the risk.
All this is way to involved for me and I don’t see it worth it to loose my job. I’ll just do what a gotta do, no big deal. I’m NOT hacking into anything. I was just wondering if I could clear my history now and then.
O well
