Deposit left for car, buyer vanished, now what?

Most likely this is all for not.

The old guy who put the deposit on it probably died.

Thank god! The guy finally called me today. No mention of why he waited, but he has the money. I’m getting the money first, then it’s no longer my problem, and he can get his car the fuck out of my yard.

Thats why when I take a deposit I give a receipt of the deposit and the balance due by XX date otherwise the vehicle will be put back up for sale and XX% of the deposit will be held/returned.

that is exactly how you have to handle it otherwise he can come after you for the money. if he does not pay by that day then you are allowed to keep it, no questions asked.

I would include a date on the receipt that he has to remove the car by. Try to avoid something like this again.

I’m drafting one up as we speak. I’ll give him a week, and thats being generous. After that it can go out on the street, w/o plates, and I’ll make sure any tickets received won’t come back to me.

i say go to his house have the car droped in his frount yard and say “give me my motherfucking money!” get the money and leave.

not that i really expect you to do it, but just shoving the car in the street w/o plates when your the last REGISTERED owner is not a good idea

good luck getting out of having to pay the tickets on that deal, your car (sold or not) in front of your house and you put it there = not the buyers fault

I just drove down to an abandoned warehouse off of Ohio street in my '71 Pontiac Grand Ville, to pick up $2k cash. While waiting for the new owner and admiring their junk Ford truck collection, I got to chat it up with some drunk guy I couldn’t understand at all, who was sucking down Budweisers and replacing a headlight in an old Mercedes 300D. I had the new owner sign that the car would be picked up by 11/28. What a fucking weird day.

 at meeting at an abandoned warehouse to pick up 2k in cash. Glad you didn’t end up on the news as Buffalo’s latest murder.
