He has a slim budget, you cannot build a Intel system with same specs remotely close to an amd build for what he wants to spend he can get a whole amd system up and running the latest games.
Just for shit in giggles new egg has i5 4670k listed for 229$-3.5ghz quad core
Meanwhile the brand new AMD FX-9590 is 259$-4.7ghz 8 core

I have had this argument before but more cores does not make something automatically better, especially considering most games don’t need that many cores.
@evane if i go intel and a budget build am i better off with the Duel core, or spending a little more for a i3? Also picking the duel core chip, whats MB is suggested? Still looking to run duel graphics cards, around a 700+watt power supply. 16gb ram, and ill be running a 1tb hd for now. Found a mid tower case super cheap new.
I figured they were lower end but was not sure I’d the i3 was better than the dual core. But I take it the over clocked duel core performs well. I might and try that route. What’s the worst that happens. I can’t play on high settings and I upgrade a month down the road and waste a few bucks. Or it performs and I saved some coin. Now I need to match a MB and I can handle the rest after looks at all the previous options you guys game me
This may be the case for older games but today’s games love more cores as today’s games are utilizing muti threading. There are towns of reviews pitting Intel vs amd for gaming and with budget in mind amd kills it every time
You could probably easily get a i7 quad core for the tower. i3 are garbage unless you want to spend like $50 on a desktop build.

Mostly agree the Haswell i3’s don’t give enough of a price savings, though the though the Core i3-4130 is a decent deal. That Pentium I linked a great deal, but if you can afford it I would strongly advise getting the i5-4570.
If you are looking to do Crossfire/SLI then you need to up your budget really. In the Intel Haswell world you need a Z97 motherboard to do it don’t have a specific board as I would probaly never do SLI/Crossfire but for brand Gigabyte or Asus are my preferences.

True but still no game can justify the need for 8 cores. 4 Core CPU’s are plenty for almost all games and most normal non-power user workloads.
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/sys/4717258914.html found this. Guy says he build it not to long ago for a little over $800. He knows he is going to take a hit, should i offer him something or pass and go my original plan and build myself.
Well tomorrow am i am picking up a whole setup from a guy online. I don’t expect it to work wonders, but i know at the price point i have room to add things.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor (this 3.2 chip is being OC’ed to 3.8/4.0 with great success with good cooling, ill keep it around 3.6)
ASUS M5A97 mobo
8gb ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti
750 Watt Power supply
1TB HD
22" Samsung lcd
some multi colored brand mouse and keyboard.
He was asking $750 obo, Got him down to $450 for it all. Will be installing a SSD for the main HD, Will either pop for a new Graphics card or SLI a pair and up the ram to 16gb since its currently on two 4gb sticks. I am way under budget on this and the specs according to some sites says this will run pretty well for the new Tom Clancy game.
