Zach, how much of a difference would the polishing stage really make on a newer car? I have an 07 that is garaged about 50% of the year (we have a one car garage). I claybar it a couple times a year and wax it about once a month with meguiars nxt. When I am done it is smooth like glass and has a deep shine. If i went out and got a porter cable and some pads and polish and added that step along with a sealant or glaze, will I see much of a difference? Seems like that might be something that only really helps on an older car with faded or oxidized paint.
If you have any noticeable swirls or light scratches, it could help. It could just add some depth as well as help with any swirls.
any tips for white paint? I’ve used Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover to get the yellow/dark spots out before but it really takes the gloss off the finish.
Also, there is something around my door handle, I thought it was egg yoke at first, it’s yellow and I was able to get most of it off but there are some spots around the door handle I cannot get to with enough pressure to really scrub it off. It’s deep into the paint i think. Still no idea what it is. Just noticed one day picking up the girls in South Side
Did you try claybarring the problem areas? If not, give it a shot. If it was indeed egg, it’s not going anywhere unless buffed with a rotary, and even then it’s questionable. Egg eats paint.
true, but it is worth it when you’re done
it took me 8 hours to wash, clay, polish, and wax my car
although i did it all by hand in a cramped garage
I can’t imagine your 1 series needing too much work, but I would clean that one up for you if you wanted.
I’d always be willing to detail some cars too. I can’t buff and polish like Zach might, but wash/clay/wash/wax/interior is something that I do pretty regularly. I’ll take a couple hours to do that if the price is right.
I can do whatever, too. Like I said I’m no professional, and price reflects that.
well…i think that this thread has alot of useful information for people who really dont detail but would like for their cars to shine like new…
Good thread. Now, if I could just work up the effort to actually follow the steps for any one of my cars…
Good article Zach … I’m in for a detailing competition!
what is wrong with the post?
you come into someone else’s thread, tell them it’s wrong, and don’t explain your side. you suck at the interweb
That’s what it was meant for. There is no information there that is of use to a professional detailer.
:hsugh: I don’t know if I qualify for competition…

A new PC is supposed to be coming out soon though…
Right after I ordered a G110 lol
