detailing section?

a couple of other forums that i am on have a dedicated section for detailing, (i am a bit of a car care lunatic), i think it would be neat if shift had a section devoted to detailing, (product reviews, how to, before and after pics, etc…). I was wondering how many people on here would be interested in the topic? if there are enough of us would you be willing to make another section on the forum vlad?

Yeah we definitely need another section.

i was thinking that the entire time i was typing the post. like i said it would be a good section if enough people were interested.

No we don’t need another ! Make a thread in general auto if u would like

Perhaps it could be made a ‘sticky’ in the general automotive section

cant tell if OP is serious or not…

Yeah im looking for some detailing advice. I want my paint shiny… can anyone give me some help? Should I wax it? It has some scratches from my metal shovel when I removed some snow over the winter. My friend told me if I wax it it will look better? any input?

because the snow has to come off and a shovel is the best option i have a tool that i use when i detail my car. i use a grouting sponge with sand paper taped on one side of it to remove the caked on dirt. before you do that just run it through a hoffmans car wash, but it has to be the ones where they use the brushes and cloth on your car as you go through. after that get them to dry it with dirty terry cloth towels. then use the sand papered sponge and give it another good wash. you can dry it or not, then just slap a bunch of wax on it in the middle of the hot sun…you should be pretty much good to go after that

Not anymore

Who says “neat” anymore?

You can remove headlight glaze with toothpaste. I read it on the internet.

autogeek.net has pretty decent active detailing forums. Lots of good and bad advice to be read, many professionals there.

Hahaha I lol’d

That guy in no way looks like me.

Dark rimmed glasses, a weird beard, fanny pack and clearly drives a vw… for all we know that IS you

It’s not THAT bad. Is it better to do it at home yourself if you have time and the materials/knowledge? Sure. I used to take 6-7 hours on saturdays to detail my Maxima and initially my M35. Now, I just don’t have the time for it.

I have unlimited and go to the one near 155 on Central. Do I have swirls in my paint from the cloth? Sure. But, I’d likely get them over time washing the car at home myself. My paint is still smooth as glass and when clean isn’t that noticeable unless you know what you’re looking at. I don’t let them wax my car (as you said, it doesn’t go on even, etc.) or do anything else to it and they have not inflicted any other damage except for the below:

The only thing they have done wrong to my car is tear not one but both of my front mats to ****. Meaning, the little metal ring in the floor mat that goes over the hook. Tore them both clean out. Other than that, I have no issues with Hoffman and go through there 3 times a week.

My $0.02.

3 times a week :rofl

One more time. And repz

I was mostly joking in my post. I hope nobody actually uses sand paper taped on the back of a sponge.

But yes you can get a decent wash there, but it’ll most likely leave swirls. I detailed my car like 3 years ago, and with only using touchless car washes in the winter and hand washing, I have kept my car almost swirl mark free.
