detaling questions

how much do places, people around hear charge for a standard detaling?

It usually runs about $120-$150 for something decent.

Go to Ryan. I’m going to have him do my interior soon (after I do the system install, auto climate swap, LED swap, etc.), but I do my own exterior.

Ryan will do it for $30 I hear if you make fun of him enough.

how much you shops charge?

Ive seen pricies at detail shops from $100-$200

id give johawk lunch and watch him do my car.

thanks and did you ever get the sema sign in and pass word for me i really need it asap

Just go to Ryan. When I worked for a detailing place we charged $150 for a full detail…it can’t possibly be more than that. If it was, I’d walk out and…again…go to Ryan lol.

I charge usually 150 for a full detail, but the other guy on here does it cheap as fuck.

I used to charge $150-200 for alot of the high end jobs i used to do, but i got out of it. People see that they cant go to hoffmans for $30 and get their interior/exterior done and ask WTF is with the high price. Alot of people dont realize what goes into a good detail job, even when you explain it to them.

For some reason I thought Kramerbuccs (assuming that’s the Ryan everyone is referring to, as there are 2 Ryan’s who detail on here) did his detailing for like $70…could be completely wrong though.

I’m working on new prices this year, but I can do whatever you’d like me to do, to put it simply. My most common “standard detail” last year was a basic inside and out cleaning which included: washing the car and wheels, shining the tires, cleaning windows inside and out, vacuuming every square inch of carpet (including trunk), removing stains from carpet, and cleaning all door/dash/ceiling panels.

This “basic detail” for 09 will cost $55 for cars and $65 for SUV’s, minivans, large trucks, etc. I’ll have a few options that you can add on if you’d like, conditioning leather seats and shampooing the carpet mats are both $5 per row of seats.

For those looking for more than a basic cleaning or detail, I’ll have a clay, polish and sealing of the paint option that you can tack on to the “basic detail”, this will likely cost between $40 and 60 extra depending on the size and condition of the car. This will further clean the paint of road grime and will make the paint “pop” a little more by removing some scratches and swirl marks and sealing the paint. It’s mostly a protective sealant though, it’s not going to give you the incredibly deep shine that you get from carnauba waxes, but it will stand up to salt and harsh conditions better than a natural wax, which is why it was a popular option last year to prep cars for winter (Jammer’s Hummer, s0lace’s 07 Civic Si sedan, etc.).

My top of the line, shit-your-pants-when-you-pick-up-the-car-detail, will be closer to $200, I’m still debating the price. This will include:

EXTERIOR

-Wash car
-Clean windows inside and out
-Clay and 2 stage polish (or only 1, if applicable) exterior windows
-Clay and wax wheels
-Clay paint
-4 stage polish (or fewer, if applicable) of paint
-Best of Show wax on paint
-Restoring of black exterior trim
+++++(info on wax: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/car+care/car+waxing/car+waxes+and+sealants/best+of+show+wax.do )
+++++(list of show winners the Best of Show wax has been used on http://www.griotsgarage.com/category/from+the+podium.do , for example, the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was won by a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta using Griot’s Best of Show wax, the list goes on and on)

I apply all of the claying by hand and all of the polishes, waxes and sealants using Griot’s Random Orbital (99.99999999999% impossible to to any damage to the paint, the harder you press, the more scratches you remove)

INTERIOR

-Vacuum of entire car, including trunk
-Stain removal on carpet
-Shampooing of carpet mats and leather conditioner included in price
-Cleaning of all gauges, knobs, dials, buttons, dash panels, door panels, etc.

ENGINE BAY

-Overall cleaning of underside of hood, painted, plastic and metal surfaces
-Conditioning of rubber hoses

I’m sure I’m missing a few things here and there, but that’s the gist of it. I’ll be giving the whole shebang to my Altima in a few weeks in preparation to sell it, I’ll be sure to take 34678974 pictures to let everyone know how my work can look :thumbup

Also, you can see in my signature my new website (MUCHO gracias to Singh for his help, if you’re looking to make a website, call him NOW). It’s still a work in progress, I’ll be completing it next week as I have it off from school.

Thanks to Ilya and others for recommending me :thumbup

EDIT: Here are a few quick pictures from a year old 5MP point-and-shoot Casio digital camera of how the paint looks after the Best of Show wax:

^Those two are the same car, I had no idea BMW’s Imola Red had so much depth and variation in shade depending on lighting conditions until I waxed this 01 M3

^Quick reflection picture on the hood of my Altima, really a cruddy picture but you can see the depth fairly well

Ryan , PM sent

Ryan, do you find black cars to be the biggest PITA when it comes to detailing?

i do it for 2 blowjobs, on sequential days.

Black cars are the most rewarding cars to detail. They look like shit when you start and look sick when it’s done. I know because I do it to my car 3 times a summer, lol

mmmm, i know. i cant wait till its warm enough to do some work on mine. i have great wax that gives the paint excellent protection and tremendous depth, not to mention makes my car smell like bubble gum ^^

Yes, but like Jim said:

They look the best when clean, as a rule. Unless you have some amazing color like Imola Red or Phoenix Yellow (Honda’s or BMW’s) or something. When it gets warm(er) and I finish putting my car back to stock I’ll show you all a nice, cleanly detailed black car.

Also, in April, you’ll see a nice waxed Black C6 Z06 :ninja

I feel sorry for the poor bastard that has to detail the car I just traded in. The interior was fucking disgusting from snow, dirt, mud, food, etc. I dont normally let it get like that but I dont get much of a chance to clean it when its cold out.

Ive decided that Im not going to eat in the truck because I dont want it to be a mess.

My car BLOWS to clay/finish/polish/wax

Course the paint is 16 years old.
