Detective Coating is venturing into Ceramic Coating and Hydrographics

I have finally hired some help so that I can get some spare time to experiment with the two so that I can add them as another service that I offer. So far, so good.

I have received a DNP T3 Manifold, O2 Housing and 35R hotside for my first batch of ceramic coating which will be done in Satin Black.

I have gotten my hands wet (literally) in hydrographics. This is a very cool and new process to the customization world. There are thousands of patterns to choose from and surprisingly this stuff is very durable!

Here are 2 quick pictures of some parts in Carbon Fiber:

If you have any questions about either process, feel free to ask! If you would like to follow my progress with these projects daily, add me: www.facebook.com/justinspowdercoating

How much did it cost to get into hydrographics? I’ve been considering it for a while as side project stuff… but if there is already a vendor on here, I’m good with that too.

How big a tank to you have?

Currently the tank is 36x24x15. It was $100 to “try it out” it was only a meter long sheet though. I’ve done my research with suppliers and avoid the quick do a few small things at home markup that they do and buy some quality stuff. I plan on getting a much larger tank with a heater and filter/pump in a short amount of time.

Oh damn! I need some stuff ceramic coated! I will be in touch shortly for prices!

Great to see you expanding and growing…

Finally got around to doing the ceramic pieces:

Sweet… looking good.

Thank you!

In regards to heat, ceramic coating is better then powder coating right?

Yes it is. Ceramic can withstand 1600-2000 degrees whereas powder maxes out around 250-300 for a short period of time.

Calipers should get hotter then 250-300 on a DD right? Having them powder coated should be ok right?

Yeah your brakes won’t get much hotter than that if they even get that hot. There are a ton of track cars with powdercoated brakes that have had them down for years without issue.
