The building in the beginning and in about half the shots is Michigan Central Station

They are trying to save it, but it seems the whole city wants to knock it down.

I love the guy, and he’s a member of AR15.com. Dudes ok in my book.

But the lefties hate the truth, and will tell us how more gov’t will fix everything.

How can people write about Detroits downfall and not mention white flight… seriously, as more middle class white people moved to the burbs so did the companies that they work for. The largest contributing factor is the lack of tax revenue as a result of this.

Consolidation during the 1950s, especially in the automobile sector, increased competition for jobs. An extensive freeway system constructed in the 1950s and 1960s had facilitated commuting. The Twelfth Street riot in 1967, as well as court-ordered busing accelerated white flight from the city. Commensurate with the shift of population and jobs to its suburbs, the city’s tax base eroded. In the years following, Detroit’s population fell from a peak of roughly 1.8 million in 1950 to about half that number today.[4]

The first black mayor, Coleman Young, was elected in 1973.[19] Recent urban development in Detroit has led to some demolition and renovation.

srsly? have you been in the burbs of vegas?

I’d do any UAW job for 14$ an hr + benefits, they can keep the 401k, ill handle saving money myself.

Its because of all the black people.

Well youre bout spot on.

I started at Delphi for 14/hour. Health care came about a year later.

And I bet your fat ass couldnt do %50 of the jobs without passing out.

lolguy. What a jerkass statement. And %50? Really?

Hard to argue. One of my older co-worker talks about the 70’s when the mayor told the whites to get on the other side of 8 mile, I looked up the quote and it wasn’t what he said, but that is how many people took it.

Also, Detroit has some of the farthest distance commuters ever.
With the auto companies offering free cars, insurance and gas to executives, living 50+ miles away from work with a huge highway system of 70 mph roads is not uncommon. Also, city tax of 1.5% for non-residence of the city also sucks.

As for the 'burbs I have never seen money like this in Buffalo; Bentley’s, Lambos, Aston Martins and Ferraris all parked next to each other on the streets in Birmingham on the weekends.

I agree - the suburbs of Detroit are really nice. Also University of Michigan is world class.

Detroit itself makes me really appreciate Buffalo. Even San Francisco made me appreciate many aspects of Buffalo I hadn’t prior to visiting.
