Conspiracy theorist!

In b4 #tinfoil

It’s not a conspiracy when the entire thing is publicly disclosed lol

This creates a number of situations like crossing the border the laptop that has pirated software/movies/music/whatever/nudes on your cell phone lol

This is a lot different then idiots bitching that DHS purchased X amount of ammunition of X amount of years.

There are other things they want to do within 100 miles but I won’t discuss until it becomes “publicly disclosed”.

In the end it’s going to be the same domestic task force I suspect. You know, the task force Obama stated must be as big and powerful as the US military. 8/

Because I look at actual risk and exposure to issues…

The idea here was to make people aware because there are a number of scenarios where people could get electronic devices searched and end up with some sort of charges.

I always wrap my laptop in tin foil when at the border.

Is there any clarification on when they can search them? for example, does this give them free reign to come in your residence and “search devices”? Pull you over? Break into a parked car? just walkin around? Or is this just for airports/border crossings?

Yeah back in the 70’s they defined the border zone as being within 100 freaking miles of the actual border, and basically suspended the constitution within that zone (not that we follow it anywhere else for that matter.) This probably ties into that?

I assume its if you’re “traveling” but who knows.

It’s never good to have your phone/computer/ipod searched I know we have a list of countries at work we can’t bring our primary laptops into. We have to use loaner ones which get the HDs destroyed etc. I know people who have been in China and had their laptops taken for inspection and they came back later with screws loose etc.

My guess is the government doesn’t have the resources to abuse this currently however if you ended up in some sketchy situation im curious if they could get you for copyright etc.

You may have my freedom but you can’t have my nudes!

:io:

Oh hey

9th Circuit Appeals Court: 4th Amendment Applies At The Border; Also: Password Protected Files Shouldn’t Arouse Suspicion
