Diagnosing a Clunk

Koni springs and struts/shocks

Its not a normal sound for sure.

I got the lug nut lock key from Mazda (got lucky). Gonna look at this later this weekend.

are the 3’s separated spring and shock in the rear? like the springs go inbetween the arms of the wishbones like the focus? If so, check to make sure the upper rubber spring cap/snubber is on the spring, then check to see if the bottom has an y scrapes/gouges…the spring could merely be rotating creating that sound. the way to get rid of it is with thrust bearings from QA1. besides that, it can be a bushing somewhere or a blown strut. the easiest way would be to swap struts in the rear and see if the sound transfers to the other side

I hate the retardedness. 1 missing lug nut on a 5 lug is absolutely fine.

And wheels locks are completely pointless. You can get them off just as fast as regular lug nuts. They only slow down the owners.

Check your bushings too. Try moving the wheel with it on and off the ground, just like you would look for a bad ball joint. Try it with the suspension loaded too. Shocks, shock mounts, spring bushings, control arm bushings, link pins-yes these can make a pretty good clunk, sway bar bushings can make a wicked clunk too once they are spanked.

great suggestions here guys, really appreciate the help

Tomorrow is my day to go after this thing with a vengeance. I’ll be sure to update it and let you all know what I find.

Took shock completely out, clunk goes away (just shaking car)

Removed the upper mounting cup on the shock, bushing looked good, put it back on. Tightened it REALY snug.

Put shock back in, tightened it in real tight

Clunk is gone. Must have been that upper mounting cup was a little loose.

Thanks for the help fellas
