I put up my first wall this weekend and move all my shit into one corner of the basement so that I can Epoxy the side that will be the laundry/pantry/shop space. Once the floor is finished I will move everything back in place and take some pictures as I build out walls and my floor.
I was looking to use this then something on top of it.

I had pondered laminate floating floors, but I can not tolerate the hollow noise that is made when you walk on it.
I will not rule it out, but I would rather have a decent carpet down there. Possibly with tile in the kiddy/kraft area.
Maybe carpet tiles or something
Edit: the dricore panels are ~$2 each
Pretty silly pet peeve, but it’s your house. What’s the cost on the dricore like?
The panels are ~$2-3 for a 2’x2’ square.
I will not rule out the use of laminate just yet. No matter what I decide, I will need to look into a backup up for my sump pump.
I would rather not let one power failure ruin my efforts. I will probably take the next 6-8 months trying to figure out just what I want, only to make a rash decision
because of some artificially self-important deadline.
i would have to agree with this. my friend had his basement done in the flat black for the ceiling and it looks awesome. i think its a way better option then drop ceilings.
The paint makes it seem like the wood and plumbing is brand new. It’s hard to explain, but I could not be happier with how it turned out.
(unless someone else did it for free)
Ceiling looks good, I prefer that over dicking around with drop ceiling or tiles or whatever.
X…
The problem with the dricore is the edges. Go to home depot and snap two together. Notice that there is still exposed particle board. This shit will absorb moisture and expand like it is its job. The only solution I can see that makes dricore a feasible building material is if you paint the tiles and seal them well where the plastic meets the wood.
For my floor I am using pressure treated 2x4’s cut in half to make “1x2”'s that will be sheathed with plywood. I am going to be applying an exterior paint to all of the plywood as well to increase it’s mold/mildew resistance.
Where are you guys finding Dricore for $2? I just looked at it and it was $5-6 per 2x2 at Lowes and Home Depot.
To be fair, I last looked last year sometime
That makes sense then. I looked into using it, but the fact that it was “floating” made me worried. I did end up going with a floating floor with vapor barrier and foam under it. I have a pool table weighing almost a ton going on it and the dri-core would have broke under pressure.
That is over $1/sqft…definitely not worth the price. Hell I paid $1.66/sqft for my real hardwood floors. It would probably end up doubling the cost to put down a floor (laminate or carpet), which would not be smart.
Found a way to help make my basement a little more tolerable.
Where can I buy a big mirror for cheap?
And, unrelated… How can I chrome lally columns?
Abbott Glass. They will cut it to your specs. I got my bathroom mirror which was something like 3’x 2’ for $60 after tax. It was a 1/4" thick, I’m sure you go thinner if you wanted.
I think i’ll check places like restore 1st. I have to cut an access panel in a wall so I can get to the furnace valve and plan to hang a mirror over it.
If you were closer to Binghamton, I’d sell you the one in my basement for that price, which is like 40-48" square, 1/4" beveled edges, but I can’t fit it in the car to bring it back with me.
I bought a 48"x30" mirror from Lowes and mounted it up.
On a side note, my fridge is nearing empty of beer
I need a bar.
I’m not sure where to put one or what style to build.
anyone have a sweet home bar?
More progress.
Overall, there was almost zero progress in the last year.
Spent the last few days under the stairs and cleaning up a years worth of mess.
All my old nintendos, Playstations, Xbox, and an Atari in the shelf.
Added a dart board. I never knew plstic tip darts would penetrate drywall so well.
My method of cleaning is to stuff everything into a corner.
Here is the kids murder room. I hope to put a chalk board or something over the door on a hinge. I did leave an opening near the top stair so we can look in to see if the kids leave any bodies in there.
I will take some pics of my setup. It is all one room but very functional. I have an office, a bar, a kid area, and a lounge (couch, chair, TV) all in one space.
