Just wanted to toy with wrikle paint to see how the shit turns out. Pretty damn good. I polished a turd and am happy with the result.
Here’s what I started with: (shout out to Long for the hookup, I hope you like your FREE finished product mang)
Now I layed down paper and sprayed the shit outta it with aircraft remover. This shit is good. Watch your skin though it burns after only a few mins.
Then I took a drill and wire wheel brush and cleaned it up a little more so I got some shiney metal
At autozone which gave me the idea, they had krylon wrinkle red on the shelf. I was gunna do this a long time ago with VHT but didn’t feel like ordering and waiting for it. Seeing as the krylon was there I went for it. I sprayed 3 heavy coats with about 5 mins in between each coat. The paint looks very normal and non wrinkled when you spray it on. It wrinkles after about 2 hours (very weird).
And the final result: Finished product looks pretty good. I got the letter pretty clean by putting some chapstick on them before I sprayed the cover so the paint wouldn’t stick to them very well. Little bit of sanding and they cleaned right up. There were a few spots where I touched up that still need to dry again that you’ll notice in the second pic. But overall I think it turned out pretty pimp.
looks hot…good job!!! but lets wait until its on the car under all that heat…is the krylon paint made for heat purposes? if its not wouldnt it just burn right off? or was the paint high temp paint?
u can paint a valve color using regular basecoat/clearcoat. cover does not get hot enough to damage it. my valve cover is painted the same color and way my actual car is painted- i have yet to see a problem.
i always wanted to paint me coves, but never did thinking heat would be an issue, i think must of us thought that any wayz, but now that i know its safe, il do it, thnx alot for Diy and pics man,
RGR that. I will if you want but it won’t be for free anymore. It only took about 3-4 hours of work and the supplies were cheap. So I wouldn’t really charge much, especially cuz you just hooked me up recently. I’m all about the favor for favor shit when it comes to doin work and trading parts. However, the freebie was for the lab rat test piece. I knew it would turn out decent, but Long was still the first to get me one quick while I still had motivation. I’m just happy the project didn’t flop and he got back a smeared turd instead of a polished one. Anyway, hit me up and let me know. I can also do the stock black if you’d like that better. Up to you.
bah, I’d charge like 35-40 depending on good it comes out. For Laymone seeing as he just hooked me up on a sale with that dash bezel. I’d do it for him for 25.
edit: no that’s not my hourly rate, I was speaking for a finished product. I don’t have an hourly rate. (however I wish I did, isn’t that right JUAN!?) fucking madddd time into his whip for very little $$.
yes it would, but no I won’t. Performance mod time coming soon…I really rarely ever fuck around with cosmetic shit even though I’m semi-cable of a pretty good finished product.
