DLP big screen

god i feel sorry for folks who grossly overpay for sony, too funny.

you really have to be trolling. there’s no way you’re that dumb.

name an LCD without a high gloss finish that even comes close to any modern decent plasma in black levels or color accuracy out of the box. i’m not talking about comparing a PN50A450 samsung to an LED LCD. the newer panasonics and pioneers walk circles around just about every LCD i can think of.

from what you keep saying, i’m almost convinced you’re confusing the two technologies.

you are correct about the OLED televisions though. those things are mind blowing. i’ll give you that.

buickgn, what plasma do you have and how was it calibrated? i’m just curious.

don’t you think the LG’s run really poorly though? the ones i see burn in so easily, especially the bigger panels.

I have a dell, with LG glass, back when they were still making them.

I calibrated it with Avia Pro, Digital Video Essentials and GetGray.

LG is very good, burn in is not even an issue if its newer, and if you have a burn in DVD its almost to the point where it will never burn in.

oh cool. i forgot Dell had made tv’s. :mamoru:

getgray is a DVD right? so i take it the calibration was front panel only?

i’ve had so many issues with LG’s burning in on the 50"+ tv’s. primarily the 60’s and the 71’s. granted they are running in that store demo mode that’s very vivid, but still. it always makes me nervous when someone wants one.

We havent had an issue with any of the LG’s even our 60’s.

Any ghosting is removed by power cylcing the tvs.

and we run them 10 hours a day, with a good 4 hours every day of espn news with those banners on the sides.

and those are not burned in.

Stock settings, no adjustments, no calibrations.

Demo mode might have something to do with it, but a simple power cycle should fix, any ghosting.

Edit for dex: Lgs 720p lcds are disgusting, but all of their plasmas i have seen are excellent and are some look better than a comparable size Marantz Fujitzu or NEC.

wtf? seriously?

i did everything. power cycles, white washes, inverted colors, you name it. i started telling people they were ESPN edition TV’s because of that damn logo.

Idk dude, all i know is ours dont have it, none of our plasmas do.

Im not sure if burn in disks were run when they were put up, or not, but none of our plasmas have burn in at all.

yeah man i dunno, ive never seen a newer plasma experience any burn in, especially after running a burn in dvd.

yes in menu settings only, i never ventured into the service menu, i didnt see a need to go any further than what i did.

the real home theater is better pics. to follow

I honestly don’t see what me saying “its green” when I see green has to do with being dumb. Its not like I’m taking a stab in the dark. or pulling it out of my ass. I am Looking at the screen of a TV and seeing green. I almost want to say I will meet you at an electronics store. I know the best buy at the Galleria has the Pioneer Elite 60". I feel Like we should meet there ( I know at least BuickGN says he is from buffalo I don’t know about you Dex) So I can point at this highly reviewed TV and say “look frame black. look screen green” I’m not saying it looks like astro turf. But there is a tint to it.

Or shit I will drive to your house to see this. You say you have a calibrated plasma TV, though I have never seen your particular TV in person anywhere (Don’t know anyone with dell TVs, just monitors) so I can see a plasma as best as its going to be. I am this determined to be proven wrong

Clearly I am not trying to build post count for anything, I have no reason, other than the fact that I don’t agree that their black is truly black. It has nothing to do with intelligence, it has nothing to do with being color blind, it has nothing to do with being a sony fan boy, I’m not suckin on the nuts of any company. I just look at a plasma, and clearly enough see that it isn’t black.

I’m not even disagreeing with the color reproduction and I said this before, I was blown away by the color of the Pioneer. I saw a blu-ray demo on the Pioneer that looked like I could reach through the screen and grab one of the apples on it. But I’m just not seeing black.

And The_Russian, Color blindness wouldn’t make me see green where there is suposed to be black, especially If I am looking at black right next to it.

your opinion is your opinion. i’m done arguing. i can’t even begin to understand how it’s possible for you to see it this way, but i’m not going to type anymore about it.

i’d say the galleria is a good place to meet up at for looking at televisions if you really want to. however, i’m usually pretty busy when i’m there so i can’t honestly say i’d have the time to sit and talk about TV’s. lol.

EDIT: this is dex.

Well if BuickGN is willing to show off his incredibly calibrated TV I’m still willing to be proven wrong.

i have a calibrated plasma. however, it’s a base model television and i am in no way saying that it can go toe to toe with previously mentioned brands in this thread. it’s just a base model panasonic.

at this point, everyone in this thread is too stubborn to agree on anything. if you want to see a sick tv though, the best buy at the galleria has the 60 inch pioneer hooked up to the pioneer elite blu ray player. also, there are the series 9 LCD’s from samsung, along with with the XBR5’s, and soon the XBR7’s and XBR8’s.

I mentioned earlier that the Pioneer was there, I played with it a bit and said that the color was pronominal. Actually I sail all this in the message you quoted before…

edit: ok I didnt say all of that in that post only, but I was at that best buy checking out TVs cause I happened to be around the mall and figured I would see what they had.

are you a real skinny guy with shaggy hair? or were you with a real skinny guy with shaggy hair?

I take it you work there.

I wouldn’t consider 210 skinny, but i have a bit of a shag goin on.

i couldn’t really remember. i was the guy in the shirt and tie who walked up to you and wanted to know what you were doing to the television settings and where you got the remote from. lol.

i run the magnolia/home theater section at best buy.
