Amazon has it for ~$1650
I am looking for a 50"+ TV that will do 1080p, has a bright screen and won’t look like shit when you aren’t looking directly at it…

I’ve always been skeptical of Samsung tv’s but their lcd’s have impressed me, that tv doesn’t look bad at all for the price.

Hitachi Ultravision Projection LCD is better

Why? Please elaborate.
A lot of positive reviews on it. You might want to consider checking one out in person. Some people might have issues with seeing a tiny bit of flicker from the color wheel on single DLP sets. Though it may not be an issue these days, but time to time I see it on my older projector.
2007 Samsung HLT–76 series thread. 20 pages long. info overload.

But, IMO:
*14,400 rpm color wheel - ewww - Srsly, get a LED light engine (Samsung HLT5687S, $2004/Amazon, $1980/IntechAV), nearly completely eliminates the rainbows, ours was a wheel (solid state wasnt out yet), and ~1 out of ~20 people actually saw rainbows on occasion.
You know I am a superfan of Sam DLP sets. Though, the Tosh have been looking better as of late.
HLT5676S is 1699.98 through amazon. Wow, thats actually about $31 less then I can get it for, which is rare.
I’m in the market for one too, keep the infor coming.
X…
I’ve got the HL-S5087W. If you wanna stop over to take a look just give me a call. I bought mine back in Febuary and I love the thing. Bright, sharp, deep colors. And when you get into something that can actually output in 1080p… yeah.
I’ll through in the HD version of The Departed and we can snuggle.

Why? I’ve had a few and they have been great. I have a Samsung LCD right now and I love it.

I never really liked DLP’s…
No plasma’s or lcd’s near that price?
[/quote]
at the risk of starting a >.< debate…
DLP > Plasma > LCD > Sony
No burn-in, break-in, babysitting. Not nearly as many reports of dead pixels, let alone redic pixelation in fast scenes, contrast on par with plasma with far less fears, cheaper, etc.
:mamoru:
Bulb lifespan was a big concern, though that has not really panned out. Besides, under warranty bulbs are cheap. My $299 warranty paid for two bulbs that I held as “backup”… not that i’d even have the TV long enough to change them once, most likely.
And finally, in person (in store or at someones home), DLP > Plasma > LCD as far as viewing experience for the most part.
$0.02
untill you get the rainbow effect that all DLPs have, yes I have tried the three chip and I can still pick it up
Plasma>* when it comes to color reproduction, actual footprint, and a nice little space heater…
not everyone sees rainbows on wheels, i had a wheel model in my house for ~6 months and many sporting / movie events. 1 person out of ~20 ever noticed them.
and… you stilll manage to see them with the LED engine? because even fewer people have reported to see rainbows in LED models, considering that there is no color wheel… of course they have not been to market overly long.
Not too mention that threadstarter is looking at DLPs already.

I know it is rare, but its really annoying when you do notice it, it is extremely noticable when coming to watching a baseball game, all you have to do is watch the trail of a 90+ fastball and it will stand out.
I honestly still say dick around and wait for laser models to come out, have the color of plasma with the price of a dlp and the thickness of an LCD direct view

Just problems in the past, same as Hitatchi’s.

THAT IS JUST CRAZY TALK NOW
hitachis are one of the better TVs out right now
well until you get into the Marantz/Fujitsu range
One Hitatchi DLP back home failed within 2 months, they warrantied it and said it was a defective unit, however the 2nd unit they gave us just looks like crap.
Hired a professional to tweak it, and it still looked like crap, he said it was the best he could do.
So I bought one of those DVD’s and an automatic optimizer, and it looked somewhat better. I dunno, everything looked fine from me… regardless this is OT.
Either way g/l with the search, I am with Thom and think if you wait it out can get something better & cheaper.
i cannot get past the rainbow effect on any dlp, no matter if it’s the double speed color wheel, the mitsubishi dlp’s, non of them.
I was in the market for a 60" 1080p about 6 months ago. I ended up with a sony sxrd rear projection lcos. I like it. Refresh could be a little faster, but it’s definitley a nice tv.
I was looking at the jvc lcos’s also. Thay are nice too.
I think I have decided on the Sammy 50" DLP w/ LED engine or the 56"… I am just trying to figure out what the best value is and where to get it the cheapest…
