LN52A750 52" Samsung LCD. 120hz. I paid $1899 for mine from frys.com no shipping no tax. Right now they want 2600 for it, but wait for Superbowl you will be able to nab one mad cheap.
Here’s a link to the sammy website so you can check it out. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LN52A750R1FXZA
the first few choice are pretty good
STAY AWAY FROM PLASMA!
While plasma does look nice… the images burn in over time (dont ask how I don’t know but they do, weird considering their gas filled tubes) and life exspectancy of a plasma depending on how frequent its used is between 3-7 years last I knew…
People complain in store booths and whatnot that LCD’s dont look as clear as plasmas… couple reasons for this
- A lot of stores don’t acctualy show HD demo content
- You have like 50 TV’s all on the same box
- LCD’s arent ment to be looked at 2ft from your face
LCD’s provide a better picture quality (dpends on the qaulity of brand as well) Have a long lasting life and are going down in price more and more
you wonder why plasmas are so cheap most of the time… there is a reason
I like everything that’s been posted so far, especially Wayne’s.
Is a higher contrast ratio better?
More Hz better?
Check out www.slickdeals.net every day, just type LCD into the search box, it’s links to temporary sales from name brand retailers, I scored a sweet, sweet 32 inch Samsung LCD for $400 shipped a few months back.
Yes, you might have to look at response rates also. Lower time is better obviously. The newer 120hz tvs are great for high activity sports and gaming. No “screen stuttering” like some tvs.
Also the plasma ordeal. Dont shy away. There are plenty of very nice plasmas. They have really high ratio ratings and response times are quick, quicker than LCDs. The whole life expectancy BS is just that. Alot of people have had their plasmas for 5+ years with no picture quality decrease. They will over a longer period of time eventually break down, but then u can replace the tube. Hell by that time you may even want a newer, bigger TV. Like the 3D Tvs coming out in the future!
Few sites that may help…

Samsung #2 Little better contrast ratio (My favorite)

My brother has a 42inch panasonic plasma and the picture is awesome on it
that second 46" sammy (ln46a650) that quicklt1 posted is also a badass tv. It’s the model below mine and all it lacks is the network connection… they have the exact same processor and screen etc. Alot of times you can get it at least $100 cheaper than the 750. The first one he posted is the 630, and the major diff between that and th 650 is that the 630 has a matte screen, which supposedly won’t have as much glare? I did alot of research and specifically chose the glossy panel because the colors seem much more vibrant. You can’t beat the picture on this thing. Can’t wait to watch the game on it today in HD.
Also @rexford flats racing - dude slickdeals.net is the shit! I would go on there every day and search for the model number of the tv you want ie ln52a750 for me, thats how i found the deal at frys the day after black friday. Don’t be scared to order off the interwebs either. Much better deals and you can always go here - tapeworkstexas.com to get an extended warranty. That is what i did.
Some good deals on here.
Cossey decide on a few selections yet?
seriously. buy that samsung and be happy! you are welcome to come see mine if you have the time to waste.
Not yet.
Wayne- I may have to take you up on that. Delanson though WTF man.
:rofl
Wayne’s TV is the titsorz.
52" HDTV 1080P + movie produced in 1971 = still baller as fuck
I’d have to disagree with you a bit in regards to Plasma’s. I personally will never own one, but the misconception that plasma’s have burn in issues isn’t correct ANYMORE. They have internal ‘wobblers’ that move the image around the screen so fast your eye doesn’t even catch it. This almost completely eliminates the issues of burn-ins. While they are more likely to get a burn-in compared to an LCD, the chance of that happening these days (with new products - not plasma’s from 5 years ago), is unlikely.
I have a Samsung 26" LCD TV in my room for my XBox 360, Computer and TV. Although it’s too small for your needs, Samsung makes beautiful looking and functioning TV’s.
Go for Samsung.
werd on the samsung. 56" 1080p DLP in the living room and 32" 720p LCD in the bedroom. GREAT tvs.
Agreed. I own a 50" Samsung Plasma and it has a “burn-in protection” feature where the screen basically white washes itself to prevent images from being burned into the screen.
+1 for knowing what you’re talking about instead of just reading Consumer Reports from 2004, SHADY.
