Best/biggest hdtv for no more than 1k.

What is it? LCD? DLP? rear projection?

Calling Viper966, itsjim

I am doing some looking around for my buddy who just bought a house, wants a nice tv between 40 to 50 inch, for under a grand. Whats my best bet for these requirements?

actually i would like to know the same info… cause i plan on spending $1000-$1500 for one in a few months

nice topic. I would like to know also for my bedroom.

Walmart my friends.

I don’t have any access right now to compare prices but what are the JVC HD-ILA’s going for now adays?

At stores where you wouldn’t expect tv’s you can find some cheep. I was on office depot the other day and they had some nice 42" philips and some other brand for $999.

So then this thread would not apply seeing that its 1k or less…

I just bought a Toshiba 32lcd and a Sylvania 32lcd.

Toshiba was 899 on sale, and the Sylvania was 799 on sale.

They both share much of the same stats such as 8ms response time, 1200:1 cR, and all the inputs I need.

They both look great with my 360 in 720p and great with my HDDVD movies.

BUUUT, Regular TV looks light years better on the Toshiba, and for that alone Toshiba wins. Keep in ming that the Toshiba I got was just a monitor, as it has no built in tuner. But my dish network box hooks right up to it making it seamless.

Your BEST bet is to keep an eye out for sales, this is the best time of the year, PM me and i can figure out what technology will work best for them and then we can go from there

TigerDirect had this TV for $899 last week, i nearly jumped on it

theyre sold out of them now but they’ll probably have another shipment, definitely meets the biggest. they have the 56" twin for $1099 if 1000 isnt dead set

I just picked up a 52" jvc hdtv from Rosa’s, It looks good and its pretty big. They have some good deals too. i got it for 1300 +tax

That looked like a damn good deal.

bye one of those chinese off brands

akai or some shit

i got my oliviea 32lcd for 550 from bjs check them out they have some really good deals on tvs

Akai has been around for a long time and make some decent things.

For more than eight decades, AKAI has proven itself to be one of the premier sources of vision and innovation for consumer electronics. Founded in 1929, Tokyo, Japan, AKAI has engaged in offering quality home entertainment products specializing in the audio and video arenas.

For anything under $2k you’d better be prepared to compromise. I went looking for TVs between 50" and 60" in the $2000 range and saw obvious flaws in everything I looked at.

Want to see DLP’s flaws? Put on a hockey game. Watch the players fade out and pixilate as the camera pans.

Want to see LCD’s flaws? Put on something that is supposed to be black, or has a color gradient.

Plasma looks great, but I’m betting you won’t be happy after a couple of years when pixels start dying and randomly flickering.

Bottom line, I’d spend as little as possible now and wait for better TVs to come along in the next few years.

lol actually bottom line is u gotta read up, pixels do not die at a faster rate than any other tv, they last as long as any other tv out there.

had mine over 2 years now and not 1 problem

there are LCDs out there with higher contrast ratios of 6000+ but they cost closer to 2k and up
