DMV Question.

I have a DMV question, can you register a car and insure it if the title is not in your name?

And also can you insure and register a car with a suspended license?

thank you for the help.

nonono

You can register and insure a car if the title is signed by you and the owner and you have a receipt. You cant get it registered or insured if your license is suspended.

Well heres the story my dad gave me his truck to use while he is in jail but i need to put insurance on it to drive it.Would he have to sign over the truck to me?

i believe u can, i know there is a box you can check on the form that asks if your the owner or not.

being that he is your father he can “gift” it to you and put it in your name

My car was in my parents name and I came on my own policy. They signed the title but I never went to get it transfered over to me. My insurance is still fine and I have been pulled over and nothing on my license.

It can be titled in one persons name and registered to another

Why is your dad in jail is the real question?

the first few posts are wrong.

The answer is YES you can.
NOTHING on the title changes. You don’t sign the title or do anything to it.
-The owner must fill out and sign another section on the Registration Form in addition to what you fill out.
-The insurance must be in your name.
-You must bring the title to DMV.
-The owner may have to be present at DMV with you to register(I don’t remember)

You can insure a car with a suspended license, I have insured a car and a motorcycle with a suspension on my license. You can’t register the car though.

I remember having to bring my mothers license and some signed stuff when I registered her car in my name.

Oh, and they will try to take your license when you go to the dmv with a suspension.
