Insuring a car thats out of state

So a friend of mine is bringing a car up here from the south, and dosent have insurance on it, it expires this month.

She obviously needs insurance to drive the car in ny. So can i start a policy for her in ny? or does she have to be here? can i add her car to my insurance if she owns it?

I just want her covered for her trip up here.

insight?

you have to own the vehicle for it to be on your ins.

if youre so worried about it just give the owner money and have them get thier own ins policy.

pretty sure who ever registers it has to insure it too regardless of ownership.

this makes no sense.

are you suggesting that you can go into the dmv and register a vehicle that you dont own?

you can add her as a driver on your policy if its registered in her name, then add her car. just call your insurance company not a big deal really. i just added my gf to mine :picard:

yep. the owner just has to sign a paper. i have done it. (the title stays in the other persons name, no title fee, etc)

edit:

at least when i worked at geico we would never add a vehicle that wasnt owned and registered by the policy holder.

U can ins a car even if its not urs and someone else is driving it.no1 needs to knw who car it is jus make sure the person is a careful driver u dnt want to fk up ur insurance…
And yea u can register it and the title can stay in her name…

I have a suggestion if she is driving up here from the south either u or her can ask for a transfer plate I’ve had one before
