Do any dealerships just buy cars from people?

I’m getting to that point where I’m getting a little desperate to sell my car. I’ve thought about the trade in route, which would work nicely for me because I wouldn’t be paying any taxes, but that limits me to what each particular dealership has on their lot at the time, usually complete garbage.

Are there any dealers or people out there who would just buy a car as opposed to me having to trade it in? It’s probably a long shot but maybe it’s worth a try.

yes many do… but its a take it or leave it price

any parts on your scion your looking to part out…?

I heard an ad for Fuccillo the other day saying they do this and they will give you the best price.

i doubt it, i have the trd axle back and 6 disc in dash changer, i don’t know if it’s worth the trouble though.

every place will buy it just got to find the best price

Yes, and they will generally offer auction price. You are only making it slightly more convenient for them by bringing it in versus what they can go and buy Your car for at auction.

Shop it around as much as possible If You’re gonna do it.

You are much better off using autotrader.com to find the car you’re looking for, using say a 300 mile search radius, and doing the day trip to trade your car in. Let me guess… you’re upside down on the loan so the amount you’re asking for it in a used, private party sale, is too high? If that’s the case you’re either going to have to A, take a loss, or B, hold on to it long enough that you owe less than what it’s worth.

If they’ll even go that high. If you walk into a dealer just trying to sell your car they know you’re desperate, and the vast majority of dealers are going to turn your desperation into profit for them.

how much are you trying to get?

carmax

no i’m actually in a good position on what i owe compared to what the car is worth, according to kbb values in good condition i’m at about 4k-5k positive equity now. the reason i’m desperate is i’m going back to school, and i can’t afford to pay for a new car and school at the same time (no student loans for me).

I think 14k is very very reasonable for my car with the options it has, it just seems that nobody is looking for what i have right now, and i wanted this car gone before i started school so i can drive something cheaper.
