I voted modding civics/tegs is cool (meant to do any fwd) for two reasons. One: not everyone can afford XXX so mod what you have. and two (which is kind of based on #1): those who mod fwd cars leave more rwd/awd for the rest of us.
Imagine if modding fwd cars were illegal, the price and availability of rwd/awd would be horrible.
I feel the same way newman but im a broke ass college kid that is learing and a cheap honda platform is a start. We all begin somewhere so why are you getting all worked up.
But Honda’s aren’t the only cheap platform out there. Look at 240sx’s, miata’s, ect. Both of these are reliable, RWD, and are a way better platform to start with especially because it’s RWD with a huge aftermarket. Also the miata isn’t a theft magnet, and insurance rates are crazy low (unlike Honda’s).
One of the coolest things you can do to a miata is swap in a 6sp tranny from an 99+ miata into an early style 90-97 which only came in 5sp and they are DIRECT BOLT ON. Holla.
But don’t listen to me, I am biased, I’ve owned close to 10 Honda’s (Civic Si, integra GSR, prelude’s, ect) and I’ve never looked back after getting a RWD miata. I am still a Honda fanboy (08 accord for DD) but the only honda worth modding is an S2000 or NSX IMO. And right now S2k’s are cheap, which makes modding a civic dumber than ever.
there is a reason why honda/acuras from the 90s are cool to mod. they are cheap, building them is like working with legos and there are many configurations that can be done. They’re ultra light weight, parts are everywhere, and they’re proven in motor sports.
I have more respect for a person who properly builds a honda and races it / does tons of track days than I do for somebody who buys a car like a lotus and only drives it on the street. That really comes down the the heart of understanding all of this: are you building/buying for image, or for use.
Pretty much sums it up. I appreciate a real clean build, but when the end result is a car that’s basically only good for highway pulls it seems a little pointless.
I used to like FWD cars. Then I screwed mine up and bought a bike.
It totally ruined my sense of what was fast. I never wanted to have the fasted FWD j-body, just one faster than anyone would expect.
haha, where have you been meeting these Integra owners?? I’m going to avoid those spots. Integras are great platforms for road courses and they’re fun for DD. A real drivers car. I love the styling…but I wouldn’t call them cool. Hell, I wouldn’t call most cars on this board, including your own, cool. Only “cool” ones IMO are well engineered exotics or pre-1972 American cars.
Lame = high all around performance cars that get modded and yet never see track time.
meh, that’s cop-out. it’s takes a lot more time, money, and skills to race. I can understand if the effort is not worth it or the cost is too high – but to say messing around on the street is more desirable or fun it just being lazy or ignorant.
