Dodge Viper ACR.... THE RING

-No owners have complained to date about the spoiler use and bumps. The ACR’s have adjustable ride height- so long as you dont have an inconceivable height setting, you wont have a problem.

-The A/C is not on the hardcore package list anywhere. [Delete] Tire Inflator, Truck Carpet, Radio System w/carbon fiber closeout panels is all it is.

:bsflag:

vipers are only straight line cars, everybody knows that. :stuck_out_tongue:

what’s the difference between the ACR viper and any other viper? i dont know anything about these and am curious…weight loss/aerodynamics yes, but anything else?

More canards!

Car looks pretty sick, I always liked the body styling. This one seems to one up the years past eh?

So SRT rented the Nordschleife for a half-day (at a cost of $2000 Euro per hour), shipped two ACRs over to Germany, hired a pro driver through Zakspeed (a race team that runs Vipers in the ADAC Zurich 24h Race at the Nurburgring), and hoped for good weather and, more important, a lap time quicker than 7:26. And, for posterity, the SRT team figured having a media outlet on-hand was a wise idea, so they invited Motor Trend, and yours truly was fortunate enough to get the call.

Sound like a little more planning then you described

Slow:wiggle:

You miss the point. Planning has little to do with this- and what you describe could be accomplished in a handful of phone calls.

How much support [engineers, drivers, etc] did the corvette have? Now, how much Dodge support was there? How much track time did both teams have? How much track time did the driver(s) have IN THAT CAR? The Viper driver had what- half day and four laps in that car total?

Yeah, exactly. We had all those numbers laid out at a dinner the other night- I will try to get ahold of them.

Pro Viper driver vs Engineer who drives well also has to be accounted for

I watched them driving around when i was there in late June.

watched them get built too. pretty cool.

Saw one howl around Waterford Hills road course driven by the owner… not a manufacturers car. very impressive.

Brian

Pull my head out of their ass??? WTF!! I was just stating what I read. Not a really smart way for a business owner to talk. I even said, not that C&D is always 100% correct.
You need to step back, take a breath & count to 10…

While the Vette and Viper are direct competitors, there is a completely different market for these cars. the ZR-1 is for people hat occasionally might hit a track but mostly for people that like bragging rights, the ACR was built for track use in mind. If they released a track pack for the ZR-1 then I’m fairly certain it would be closer. either way… its impressive…

No i didn’t mention the GT-R cause I don’t think its in the same market at all as the two other cars.

The Zakspeed guys laps ALL DAY EVERY DAY at North loop. I would hope that with that much power and downforce and a tire that might as well not be street legal since it’s life is rated in heat cycles (not miles) they could put down a lap time like that in a track car that is registered for street use against cars with full stereos and the like.

Srsly.

Viper’s FTL.

I’m sorry, but even if the vette had a full factory support team there, doesn’t mean shit, Prodriver>>>engineer

That’s like giving a highschool football player a pro jersey and a personal trainer, and stacking him against a pro football player with no pads.

(i love my analogies )

I don’t care what car is on the track, all the manufactures should have to use ONE driver to make these claims.
If you say the driver doesn’t matter, there is a video of a pro girl driver who is driving a sprinter van and beats Jeremy Clark (top gear dude, right?) in a sports car around the ring.

seems like its getting him a bit worked up too…

the acr is hot tho, and def fast.

the same comparison with the same driver and tires seems like it could be interesting tho

ugh, you will never hear me say this again, but the kid has a point.

Aaaannnnnnddddddd this is why one should learn to quit while ahead. It was a Ford Transit diesel van vs an S type diesel jag, with the van being ~9 sec behind the time of the S type.

dammit, It’s been awhile since I watched it, either way, 9 seconds off, just goes to show how much driving skill matters.

and when I said Sports car, i ment sports sedan.

LOL. Some will look for any reason… as always.

Watch the Vette video, and watch the Viper video. The Which driver was smoother? which driver obviously has a shit-load more experience in their given cars? The Viper driver set that time on his THIRD LAP EVER in that car, and only had enough time for 4 laps in the whole day.

Yeah- GM put in a guy who doesnt know how to drive that car. Unfucking real. Its amazing how the tunes have changed since you bowtie boys THOUGHT you had the crown.

And MPD, you are a moron. I am not going to go into detail and waste my time, but do you REALLY think the time is going to change that much with the hardcore packagae or without? Also, when was the last time you saw a “race car” with A/C and a full interior? Always looking for any excuse, as usual. Face it, your beloved german cars just got owned with the rest of them.

Wait, am I supposed to treat you like you know what you are talking about TWO times after I told you that you were wrong- because I own a business?

Sorry, the customer is not always right. And last I checked, no one here was a customer to start with.

So they rented out the track for 2000 euro per hour, for a minimum of an hour and had a car so blazing fast that it did a 7:22 and yet they only got 4 laps in? Must have had reliability issues.

18% reduction in rotating mass, 60lbs of unsprung weight reduced, plus an additional 90lbs of weight reduction, with the addition of real downforce and DOT-R tires and you’re trying to tell me this car is on the same garbage level as the regular viper?

I pitty anyone who springs for the Viper ACR with the hardcore package then, they just wasted money, should’ve bought a base model!

Oh yes and here are some race cars with full interiors and/or AC:

mmmmm Ice cool A/C in those LeMans cars.

Ever looked at the Speed World Challenge cars?

OMG WHAT IS THAT A FULL INTERIOR!!!?!?!?!?!

none of this changes the fact that there’s not a single viper in existence not owned by a douchebag
