Dont be a Fool! USE CARFAX

My brother was looking at a black 2001 saab 9-3SE
its super nice, 50k miles, leather, 5speed, everything!

the dude wanted only 10grand for the car because he said hes buying a 4series bmw - so my brother said ok ill buy it

i looked them up - its hard to find them under 11-12 grand espeically being this nice

my bro didnt want me to carfax it said he didnt care…but i did it anyways
HA!! SO MUCH RED FONT ON CARFAX
salvaged and rebuilt

boooooo
if youre selling a car, tell the person its crap BEFORE they already got their loan for it scumbag.

Nice save!

and why is salvaged and rebuilt crap?

its a nice looking car very :pimp: but NOT for 10 grand

so go back, tell the guy you carfaxed, and will give him 6 for it, use the rest of the loan for mods…YAY

haha he wont mod that car, but yes i told him to ask to 6 or 7l ebcause it IS rebuilt, so its probably not too bad - but not 10

being salvaged and rebuilt doesn’t mean its crap. But it does knock a few grand off blue book. Shit my 01 cavi only has 27k on it and is salvage/rebuilt. Its perfect as a dd and drives super nice.

yea it means resale sucks at life though dont bother man

I would say have get the car looked at by a body shop to see how good it is then offer 8k for it, 9 at the max.

Sounds like a good deal for 8 K, just depends on how good the repair was. I personally would stay away from a salvage unless I knew who repaired it.

i almost bought a Trans Am back in December then i carfaxed it and found out some infor from people on here who knew the car…it was salvaged and rebuilt and i did not buy the car because of that.

good catch on the salvage…but if it was rebuilt right it wont be an issue…but aggreed not woth the 10k…the title of this thread reminded me of Van Wilder “Dont Be a Fool Wrap Your Tool…Write that down”

I hope people realize that a salvaged car goes threw a very tough inspection before it can be registered. The car has to be deemed safe for the road.

jsut cuz they say its ok doesnt mean whoever fixed it did a shitty job and its gonna break or get messed up down the road

you can say that about any car with anything done to it.

resale value on rebuilt/salvage cars is shit as already mentioned. therefore, not a good investment.

Good Catch, CARFAX usually doesn’t catch jack shit. A flashlight with a magnet usually are the best tools for looking at a used car.

x…

Eh…Salvage/Rebuilt only matters in dealing with out of state titles because NYS is a cock tease with registering a car with that title from another state. If it is in NY, and the car is clean, and rides properly…take it to a mechanic…have them check it over. If the repairs were done correctly, and he plans to keep the car long term, its not a bad investment until it becomes time for resale, but if you are patient and get your use, the right price will come along. Sometimes cars are salvaged for something as simple as a cracked bumper and airbags deployed…check ebay there are quite a few of easily fixable cars with salvage titles, sometimes the salvage/rebuilt can also refer to a theft and reconstructed tag because of the non OEM parts. As far as the NYS test for road worthiness, thats not the main reason for the test, its more to find stolen parts/scratched vins etc. Trust me I am an expert on the entire process.

For me the rule of thumb for salvage title vehicles is the following:

If it has already gone through inspection and is NYS titled and thats where you plan to live the entire time you own the car, and the price is exceptional and its EXACTLY what you want. Then have it checked out be a mechanic. If it meets those criteria and you are planning on owning it for a long time, because its not an easy sell most times, then it could be a solid buy.

dont forget a stolen/recovered car also is in teh Rebuilt/salvage category, My CObra had a salvage title too, the motor was stripped a bit and minor damage incurred on it as a result,(hood, radiator support) So unless the accident report is turning up on carfax as well dont count it out as being a totalled car/rebuild.
