DotA 2 - The International 4

Any DotA players on here? With a prize pool approaching $11 million I’m surprised this isn’t getting more hype; it’s the biggest prize pool in video game history that even surpasses the masters, for comparison.

For those unfamiliar, Dota 2 is a 5v5 free to play PC game on steam similar to League of Legends. From the wikipedia:

Never heard of it…I’ve seen the name but never actually witnessed any game play or anything.

It’s pretty intense, it has a wicked learning curve and is considered one of the most complex games out there, but despite that it’s catching on like wildfire. All the matches from The International are being broadcast on ESPN 3, and the biggest US team is now sponsored by T-Mobile:

Me and skurge play if you are ever looking for a group to join and play. We play sometimes nightly. Same username as here for both.

I cant believe the prize pool this game has gained in only being out for the x amount of years now. Crazy!

No, just League of Legends here.

lol, this is all I think about when I hear this. It’s time to make the change.

Man, I have no time for this shit.

I haven’t even played BF4 in over 4-5 months.

If I switched it would be because of the toxic community in League. Every match seems to be just 12 year olds arguing, making mom jokes and calling each other fags. Is DOTA any different?

No, they’re all essentially the same.

Welcome to the internet. Enjoy your stay.

All jokes aside, I’ve found that if you play captains mode in dota 2 you tend to find a much higher quality of player. Less peruvians (or brazilians, or whatever league has) yelling in languages you don’t understand, more people cooperating and actually trying to win.

Honest… the amount I play a week, I believe one or two matches out of 10-15 has someone I cant stand talking on a mic. Worst case you just tell them they are getting muted. One of two things will happen, they will stop… or they continue and you mute them. When they realize telling you on a mic isn’t getting you to do what they want, they go to typing and thats when they start better communication because you dont get the BS in between. lol

That’s at least my take.

Seriously, using the mute button often will increase how enjoyable the game is by 10x.

I played a lot of warcraft 3 DOTA back in high school and a bit in college but these days no way do I have time like that anymore. I’ll play a LoL game every month or so whenever I have the time.
