Holy Shit did they beef up their servers. I am downloading my copy now at ~9.0 MB/sec
i love downloading shit from microsoft. It’s like a free speed test.
yeah, I am surprised though, this thing was just released to the open public today! Last time with the beta, I couldn’t even get on the website.
They gotta handle all their WGA and DRM so they needed to beef up their servers.
WTF
no wireless support out of the box
Ubuntu had wireless out of the box on this laptop
-1 for windows
What kind of wireless adapter is it, just for curiosity’s sake?
Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG
Sound isn’t working either. This is standard Intel Hardware, fuck you M$
How old is the notebook? I had 3 devices not found but they were a fingerprint driver, the Intel Remote Management device and the HP 3D Driveguard device.
Only device I haven’t been able to find on about ~20 installs is a fingerprint scanner.
Sigmatel C-Major Audio drivers are the last bit to the puzzle.
It’s a few years old. It was purchased just before Vista really hit the market.
I grabbed a copy (averaged 970K/s down), figured I should throw it on my IE8 html/css testing VM on my mac LOL
I was disappointed at the horribly poor install process. It would be somewhat difficult for the average retarded end user. Wireless did not work out of the box, one of the NIC’s did not work, audio did not work until I hacked a beta driver, the latest ATI drivers fucking suck… Im sure I’m missing something here.
Its almost a useable operating system. Leaps and bounds beyond Vista, and I might even consider running it vs my current install of XP Pro x64. Theres quite a few things that make it vastly superior to any Windows operating system ever made, but oh soo many more than make it a hassle…
Maybe with SP2 it would be a smoother all around process.
None of my devices worked either. No wireless, network, sound, or video. They don’t work with Vista normally either but I have them handy on a hard drive so I can just install them when I reformat.
I personally love it and still running beta 7000 and haven’t had a problem. I cant wait to upgrade this weekend and see how the final install is. I also want to see the XP VM that is built into it.
I tried installing the drivers in XP compatability mode. They installed, and my PC recognizes the device, but still no sound coming out.
finally went from my beta build to RC1 last week. im enjoying it and havent really had any issues with it.
Why are people complaining about the install process “for the average user” on a pre-release product? :picard:
Yeah, in most cases, it’s not M$ building drivers, it is the third pary vendor building the hardware.
I hope that they will start to be released soon.
So i decided to download windows 7, build 7100 rc1 and re-assemble my old desktop rig to run it on.
I downloaded the 32 bit version, and burned it to dvd. The download process was simple, and they gave me a key good for a year.
So far, it’s been running better/smoother/faster/more stable than it did with prior versions of windows xp…
The download was quite fast, and the install was extremely smooth. All of my frankenstein hardware was recognized immediately, except for the on board sound card. I only had to manually install 1 driver from a clean-reformatted windows install… awesome.
I’m currently burning the 64 bit version to dvd for install on my laptop. I’m eager to see how it performs compared to my currently installed 64 bit Vista.
I love this version of Windows.
Installed really easy and the drivers that it supports out of the box were great that even XP or Vista didn’t support.
I’m currently installing it as an upgrade on my laptop, just to see how it runs. It has taken about 1.5 hours so far and is currently at about 75%, so it is a much longer process than a clean install. But it has been transferring all of my previously installed programs and other stuff, so I will save a ton of time in that area. I’m not sure how it works, but i’m assuming it’s basically re-installing all of my software to be configured properly with windows 7.
On another note, not 1 single error so far.
