Download Free Legal Copy of Windows 7 beta ( 32 bit or 64 bit ) tomorrow from MS

I gotta get the new build. I am running 7000 daily on my home PC and absolutely love it. I got using Vista after SP1 and didn’t have any issues with it with drivers or anything becuase when I finally used it, they fixed all the horrible parts with it. Once you get the feel of it tho, its really great. Media center on it is awesome too.

Is the newest build of Windows 7 Legit and can just upgrade or does it need to be hacked?

when do you guys think the full version will hit shelves? Ill probably end up waiting until then.

I don’t care if its the end of the year or next year. As long as they dont start pulling shit out of it when they find it doesn’t work and just fix it and keep testing it. These beta tests are great to becuase not only do they build blog hype but they also allow people to test it outside the MS lab environment

You can upgrade previous builds but it more or less does an install and migrates your profile settings, programs install (it will tell you which ones are incompatible and will make you uninstall them prior e.g. VMware workstation 6.5 needs to be uninstalled before installing). I went from 7000 to 7022 to 7048 to 7057 with no problems at all. It’s really the best version of windows ever.

I had a spare laptop to beta test it on but liked it so much I swapped it to my main laptop and havent looked back.

I did have some problems with a version of Cisco VPN software that it didn’t like and kept uninstalling it/removing me from the domain/and corrupting my profile.

Other than having to use a diff VPN client version, it has been rock solid.

Cisco SSL VPN and IPSec VPN you need to reinstall after even though they don’t give any warnings.

The problem was with the client (I tested it on Vista also and it was the same) eventually got it working no problem with version 5.0.0.1.0500 or something like that.

Just updated to build 7100 (official Release Candidate). Lots of improvements if you were still running 7000 (official Beta). Very solid.

EDIT: and the new included wallpapers are pretty funny.

would you recommend windows 7 instead of Vista w/sp1? and if so do the drivers ect match up? MS office?

All Vista drivers will work on 7. MS Office also will work with no issues on 7. I do like it much better than Vista and I liked Vista. I would recommend it.

I have my new system in a box that Just arrived and my copy of 7100 build waiting to go on it. MMMMMM i7 cant wait.

7100 is nice, I have the 64 bit version on my notebook. Beta Windows 7 uers - RC1 will not uprade your install of Windows 7, you will have to do a clean install.

matt made me go to W7 64bit about a month ago. i really like it.

Did they say anything about whether RC1 will be upgradable to the full version when it comes out? I know the beta wasnt. I get reluctant to do too much in a beta because formatting my OS partition and re-setting up all my programs is such a bitch.

Waaaaaaaaaaah…

BTW, if you knew or not, 7100 comes with a fully licensed copy of XP in a Virtual PC form but your processor needs to have hardware virtualization support…

Run the app and it will tell you.

I take it that’s a no then? FGGT

hmm, interesting. I’m over XP though. Vista 64 has been rock solid for my needs.

As stated before, having 64bit Vista or Windows 7 I cannot use the Cisco IPSec client (as they have no made one nor do they plan to) so I need an XP machine for work. I use VMware Workstation 6.5 so I don’t plan on changing to the WinXP that they include.

As far as upgrades go, I have no idea, i found out about the Beta -> RC1 no-no from trying to upgrade it. I can do some poking around but that information is probably not even released yet.

ill set it up on a small partition if i’m bored one night like I did the beta…or i’ll just go out drinking.

The XP Mode feature doesn’t actually come with Windows. You have to download it separately. There will be a beta for it posted sometime soon that you can test with the RC and the RTM of it will be around when 7 finally comes out. It will be free for Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise users.

IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.

If you’re running Windows Vista, you can install Window 7 RC without having to back up and reinstall your programs and data. But to be on the safe side, please do backup your data before you start.

Please note: All users of the Windows 7 Release Candidate (including Windows Vista users who have upgraded to the Release Candidate) must do a clean installation of Windows 7 RTM. Please keep this is mind as you consider downloading the Release Candidate as opposed to waiting for the general availability release.

Thanks again for your help in reaching this important milestone. We hope that you will join us in testing the RC and finishing Windows 7!
