yay
damn… wonder if I can get it thru automatic updates or something
zwarbyt, if you get one thru M$… all you have to do is register it and it’s good for a year (atleast, my install of beta 2 said it was good until like july of 2007)
how do i get it through ms?
go to Microsofts website and you should see a vista beta d/l link (you may have to search MS/google to find the link). before it’ll let you d/l, you have to sign up with them (zip code, a name and an email addy)… once you sign up, before it gives you a d/l link, it will give you your own CD key for it (at that point I reccomend NOT d/ling it from MS… but instead getting it from bittirrent because MS was plugged up like a mofo from a bunch of people trying to D/l it all at once directly from MS’s servers)
edit: Go here, then click on “customer preview program” link and follow the directions
Build 5456 is only available to beta testers through connect.com. It isn’t available to the general public and won’t even be on MSDN.
Unless you happen to know of a good torrent site… :snky:
Its a memory hog…
Im just gonna run Fedora on my home computer.
Well I’ll be home in two hours to see how it runs using near minimum requirements assuming it finished on it’s own.
Being:
-AMD Athlon 1200
-1GB PC2700
-GeForce 4 Ti4800 128MB
Should be interestingly slow.
If that works then I’ll try loading it on my dual P3-550 setup just for the hell of it.
EDIT: Got it up and running and posting from it as I speak. 440MB of memory usage on startup on a clean install. Compaired to the 102MB of Win2k on my other drive with a few startup apps.
Going to see how small I can get it though. (Currently at 150MB of RAM at boot. With a few necessary apps.)
well… no more winFS… that was cancelled.
now the only promising feature of Vista will be DX10… which as of now… will only be available by owning Vista.
AND, currently there are no DX10 compliant video cards…
I downloaded it, tried to install the 64 bit versian, setup kept crashing. Went ahead and got the 32 bit and it installed fine. Seems to be kinda slow as fook, I’m sure I need more memory. So far it seems okay, havn’t really dug into it very much but time will tell.
try messing with the voice activated thing (forgot what it was called)… pretty pimp :). control the computer with the sound of your voice
Once everything was installed I’ve found it runs very smoothly on my old ass amd1200. Also an updated version of solitare about time been like 15 years.
