Hey guys ive never actually downloaded a full movie so im not sure how this works. Basically i was looking on torrents at random crap and started looking at what movies there were. And i also have my computer next to my tv its a 50" plasma if i where to dl a full movie run the cables to the tv and try to watch it threw there would it look bad or good. I wasnt sure if it would come out really pixelated or not.
Also is it correct that computers work in HD so the movie would actually be HD on the tv. Then from there would i be able to view HD dvds threw my comp on the tv. Or would standard dvds look better threw the comp rather then a standard dvd player.
Sorry for all the questions but i just started thinking about this and really have no clue about any of it lol. Just figured since the comp and tv are right next to each other and its just one cable to swap over might as well find out. Thanks in advance guys.
It all depends on quality. I had my desktop hooked up to my tv using VGA and i can push 1920x1080 out the port so it shows up on the tv as 1080p. If your TV has a VGA input, just get a cable and setup the monitor. If you are using something like S-Video, then you might see some quality issues. Its also all about what you are downloading too. A hd dvd download rip is going to showup a lot nicer than a camera recorded movie.
“HD” Is just the resolution. Standard tv has a video height of 420px. If you are watching something in HD, its just using a higher resolution. Again, if you download a movie that is say 400px x 300px, its gonna get stretched to whatever your tv is. If you are downloading hddvd rips that are ripped and have the resolution of HD (stated above) then you will see them on your tv in “hd”
Ahh ok yea im still pretty new to all this but im trying to learn lol. Well my tv does 1080i and i figured the better the quality vid to start is going to show better im just goin to have to make sure i dl quality movies not junk. Any kind of idea of a size of quality movies because i see some that are bigger then a gig then others that are quite a bit less im guessing that above 1 gig is going to be some what of a quality movie.
O and yea my tv does have a vga spot on it so makes life easy.
What did you hook the TV to PC up with? S video? If so when you go to that s video input on the tv, does it still give you the error? I download HD movies all the time and just use the Svideo out on my Macbook to TV and works great.
try going into
“Display Properties”
“Settings”
“Advanced”
“Monitor”
and reducing the refresh rate to 60. Read up on it on avsforums.com
I havent used vga so Im not of much help.
What you COULD do that I know works and is not hard is to burn your download to a CD or DVD and pop it in the DVD player and let it do all the work.
You can burn the file as is. AVI, MPG, whatever. Your DVD player will most likely decode it and play it without a problem.
You can download a AVI Splitter and clip the credits to make the file under 700MB so it fits on a regular CD
Try to set your resolution on the computer for the TV monitor to 1280x720 and a refresh rate at 60hz. This should put your tv in 720p mode. If that works, you can go up from there. If your video card thinks its a monitor hooked up to it and not a tv, it might try a higher refresh which your tv wont show.
Yep got it to work thanks guys just stuck a movie in and it looks freaking awesome im super pumped i was just scrolling the internet and was in amazement lol thanks for the help guys now i just gotta start dling movies and see how those look
Sometimes I just convert the video to wmv and use my 360 to stream it wirelessly right from my desktop. Works great and I don’t have to keep hooking a computer up to my TV.
