Wow, that thing is mangled. RIP

RIP whoever you are…

Got this off DRC:

Neal Parker Runs 5.732/249.90, Now #2Headley spun the tires coming off the starting line and it sounded as if he never shifted. Parker ran his career best ET and speed but then never opened his chutes. The car went off the track into the sand.

Ain’t a bad way to go, seriously. If he saw the times and the rest was quick, at least. RIP

Ouch, RIP.

Did his chutes fail, or did he not open them?

page not found. come on people. lets post better links.

works fine for me Brett

OLD BRIDGE, N.J. – New Jersey State police say a driver has been killed in a crash at a New Jersey raceway.

Sgt. Stephen Jones says the driver ran through a net at the end of the track and died of head injuries at Raceway Park in Old Bridge Township on Friday.
The track is hosting the NHRA SuperNationals. Officials have not released the driver's name or type of car.

According to the organizer's website, Sportsman qualifying was under way at the time of the crash. The accident comes nearly two years after top racer Scott Kalitta died when his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track in New Jersey.
Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at about 300 mph when it burst into flames.
The 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion had 18 career victories.

yeah its working now.

before i even looked at the link, i was thinking of that crash. except his was a result of the fire, not failure to deploy the parachute

comment on the article

"Raceway Park needs to be either upgraded BIG TIME or closed! 2 deaths in 2 years is too many in this safety conscious day and age. NHRA changed the rules (again) after Scotty to help prevent unnecessary loss of life, and again, same track takes another innocent life of someone doing what they love "

not happening. its part of the risk of racing. sad, but its life. it wasnt a matter of not enough shut down area. 250mph plus parachutes is easy at E-town. the run off is huge. but no chutes = good luck for most cars. the driver probably had a heartattack or something
