Driving in Flip-Flops

who wants to wear sneakers when its 90+ out?

fuck yea im sandal crew

I remember a few resulting in totaled cars, no deaths like this though. I’m sure if I searched Google I could find more instances.

I’ve always been told that but never looked for myself. No we have something to look up today

If such a law existed I’m 99% sure it would be here in Title 7, Article 33 of the VAT.

And it’s not there.

Control of steering mechanism is there, and that’s VERY similar to control of gas/brake pedals.

§ 1226. Control of steering mechanism. No person shall operate a motor

vehicle without having at least one hand or, in the case of a physically
handicapped person, at least one prosthetic device or aid on the
steering mechanism at all times when the motor vehicle is in motion.

I’m not saying some dumb cop wouldn’t give you a hard time about it, but my guess is if you told him to write you a ticket he’d have a VERY hard time figuring out what offense to put on there. And it would certainly get thrown out when you couldn’t find a specific statute in the VAT.

Aside from my first few days driving, I have never had any issue driving any standard in any footwear. This whole thing makes me think of how many people position their seat in respect to the clutch. I have been in the car with people who sit in a position where they can barely depress the clutch. I could see how this may be problematic when you throw a different shoe in the mix, you barely have control of your foot to begin with

I’ve found a few sources that say it’s NOT illegal anywhere in the US, BUT may be added as a reckless driving charge if you’re pulled over for another offense if the officer thinks your bare feet may have contributed to that offense.

Now I’m wondering about the 2 other things I was always told were illegal (but still bad ideas): driving shirtless & installing a suicide knob, lol.

What about driving in hooker shoes?

I wear and drive in flip-flops/sandals most every day. I ain’t wearing sneakers after work when its 102* outside everyday at 4pm. You crazy.

I kick the flip flops off now. Fuck that.

Wow, there’s a lot of flip flop hate. I’m sure everyone thinks I’m totally metro when I’m wearing my flip flops… I even have bottle openers on the bottom. If you feel so strongly against flip flops - you might want to check your sexuality…

Dude there is nothing wrong with flip-flops. Fuck.

I find it funny the same people that probably wipe their dick when they pee and care more about their work sock choices also hate on sandals.

Same here in the Subie.

I feel more comfortable/in control driving with my flippy floppies on, compared to barefoot.

Wow, some people really get heated over the footwear that other dudes wear. Don’t like them? Don’t wear them. As for the accident, it’s sad, but some people don’t need any help crashing. They always blame it on something, when the reality is they don’t know how to react like a normal person if a pedal gets jammed, they hit the wrong pedal, they have to avoid an obstacle, etc. That’s why people always end up driving over the curb, through the windows, and halfway through the convenience store before they hit the brakes.

She’s a woman so she would of eventually killed multiple people with her car anyways.

I would like to state that I do not judge those who wear flip-flops. I simply do not own then.

suicide knobs are illegal, unless you have a note from your doctor i think it is? all i know is they will not install them unless you have a damn good reason why you need one, i’m not sure the process, but for the general public, they are illegal

I totally agree on this. I find it much more difficult and dangerous to drive in high heels than flip flops. If my heels are too high I take them off to drive, plus the heel gets all scuffed up and you end up ruining them.
I usually drive barefoot if I’m wearing flip-flops.

Who is “they?”

I can buy a suicide knob online and install it myself. Super easy.

I just don’t know if it’s illegal… or if I’d want to, lol.

The best I found was some NY cop who cited two sections of the VAT, one on licenses and one on equipment. Neither of those sections list ANYTHING about a suicide, spinner, knob or other steering wheel modification.

I still think they’re illegal, I just can’t find the specific law that banned them.

I bet it’s in here somewhere but don’t have time to read it carefully.

the poll needs a depends on the weather outside choice. any nice sunny day is a sandals/flip flop day.

dealerships, at least that was how it was when i sold cars a few years back. and also the aftermarket places, pretty sure they would all tell you no

you can buy them, i’m sure its not illegal in any state, and you can have them in NY if you have lost the use of a hand/arm etc
