I see more and more of this as it gets warmer. Mostly it’s thugs, but sometimes the old-school domestic guys get into it too.
There are 2 common variations; the downward fist and the pillar hold.
Example of the pillar hold:

I think the pillar hold is OK once in a while, but the downward fist totally sucks. Especially when performed by tatted meatheads who try to flex at the same time. Thoughts?
Pillar hold = ok when you are in a vehicle that you aren’t reaching to hold said pillar.
Downward fist = only when you’re driving an '86 or older F150, with rust on every panel, a mullet, a beat up trucker hat, and a dog in the passenger seat, or a buddy dressed the same, with his arm in the downward fist.

Meh, I find it too difficult to shift & steer when doing that crap.
no A/C = arm out the window to keep cool. Need that breeze!
what about when you have your left elbow resting out the window while you’re steering with your left hand (and shifting with right)?
i’m sure some people do it for aesthetic reasons, and to look “cool,” but for me, it’s a comfort thing. i do the elbow one all the time and feels great all day long.

Just an elbow is cool. I’m talking about anything forearm or longer.
Agreed, pillar without reach is ok.
what if you can almost touch the ground with your hand. don’t tell me thats not cool, pfft
while you’re at it, why look through your windshield when you could easily use the side window

That may be cool but it’s in a VW and everyone has decided that they are NOT cool, rusted hood and all.
i once saw a massive lanky black dude rolling in a 1997 tercel with his arm out the window… he was so big his fist was pretty much dragging on the ground… it was awesome.
despite that fact, i voted lame. Keep your shit inside the car.
I agree with MP/B. The casual elbow on the door and hand on the wheel while cruising is veery comfortable, and it’s complimentary a/c! Plus you can still shift and steer easily.

yeah I scoop air, arm forward by the mirror it blows in alot of air, helps when you dont have Ac because you deleted the whole set up, or because it dosent work in any vehicle older than 2002
i also hold the pillar but never reach for it, if i rest my arm on the open window ect.
I’m a big guy with big arms so its never a reach
i do it all the time, both to be exact. doesnt matter if im rolling deep in my stankin lincoln or in my sti. i do like doing it in low cars like my sti but i could care less if its cool or not. it keeps me cool bc i dont have ac

On my rx7 I HAVE to put something out the window. Hand, arm, FOOT. Anything just to bring some airflow inside the cabin.
I don’t think being cool involves acceptance of others, so if in fact that someone is worried about looking cool by sticking their arm out the window…it’s probably not cool.
Being “cool” to me is doing what feels right to you and not looking for approval from outside sources. Honestly, will someone with their own insecurities saying you’re cool make you cool, or even feel better about yourself? LOL
