Your last word is correct. This thread took a very homo turn.

Imagine how much less time it would have taken if that guy wasn’t a total jackass. I also like how the video keeps claiming what the deputies are doing is illegal. “It’s illegal to demand that I show my ID.” Nope, it’s not.

Yes it is. He absolutely does not have to show them his ID. They are not police officers and he is not at a border crossing.

It is NOT illegal to demand that he shows his ID. He may not have to comply with their orders, and they may not be able to force his hand to do so, but they can demand anything they want. I can demand that you roll in mud, but that doesn’t mean you must comply.

If the deputies broke the law, and there is video of it, they would have been charged, and likely thrown their careers away.

Deputies have county-wide jurisdiction vs. police officers city or town jurisdiction. That is the only difference they have the same police powers, fyi.

Ok, fair. We may not be talking about the same video. I was refering my comments to the DHS and BP. Yes, a deputy can demand ID if you are operating a motor vehicle or they suspect you in the commission of a crime, and you have a legal right to oblige or they can arrest you for failure to comply with a lawful demand. I guess what I should have said is that he does not have a legal obligation to provide ID (again refering to the Border patrol videos).

Edit: At a police run check point you have to show ID if requested as you are operating a motor vehicle but you do not have to hand it over. You can always fall back on the “am I being detained or am I free to go” and they may argue but it will stop the collection of ID and questioning in its tracks.

Yeah, we are on the same page now  Some of those BP videos are a cluster$#%^.

yeah that is the one aspect of that video that is incorrect, as long as you are operating a vehicle you have to show proof that you are legally able to drive that vehicle

i was more angry about the false reading dog, making them able to search his car under “probable cause” even thought there was nothing in his car
