DUI check points

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Wednesday, August 22

A full-scale, first-of-its-kind DUI check point will be held this weekend in Pittsburgh, but the location has not been disclosed.
It will take place between 10 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday and involve two drug recognition experts to look for drivers impaired by drugs.
Participating together for the first time will be representatives of Pittsburgh, North Hills and West Hills DUI task forces along with troopers from the State Police Findlay Barracks.
Other checkpoints are likely in other parts of the region as Pennsylvania participates in a “National Impaired Driving Enforcement Crackdown” taking place through the Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for the info. It will probably be on 19 heading out of the city to Dormont, as usual…the blind sight radius, no turn off & don’t see it until you’re up on it spot.

On a side note, a tired driver is an impaired driver. Can they spot the difference?

Mt Lebanon is pretty much assumed when checkpoints are mentioned. The officers in that squad have assholes so tight, they could be referred to as .001% tolerant.

I don’t get what is first of it’s kind though. The fact that they have drug recognition specialists? I’m picturing a bunch of officers in training, passing a blunt, going “look at his eyes mannnnn, you gotta look for those things…that’s how you get 'em.” lol

you know moon will be on lockdown… as I would suggest if anyone was going to go to moon I would DEFINATELY not go through business 60 as they have had that on DUI check point twice so far in the past 3 months… and the worse part is its not all moon police its also robinson, killbuck and ohio township cops!!! IN MOON!!!

its all about the money

end of the month quota

you know how i know DUI check points are a joke and only there to make money? because they refuse to sit outside of heinz field after a steelers game. if they wanna start really crackin down on drunk driving…thats the place to start.

Or everyone could just not drive impaired, then this would not even be an issue

might be one of the only things ill agree with you on… but you hit the nail on the head.

thats basically entrapment. cops cant sit outside of a bar and wait for drunks to come out and drive. id assume the same for a large sporting event

couldnt they sit somewhere near there tho

there is ways around that… like the good ol belle vernon pigs… they sit right outside the tavern and foster house… how can they? There is a redlight between them… when I asked them why they sit outside the bar when they are not suppost to, he said, I dont know what your talking about, im sitting here watching the redlight.

no ones askin them to drink till they are drunk thou… i think thats a bull shit law. i could see if a cop solicites someone to do something illegal but unless the cop is pouring shots aren’t they just doing their job?

what if its a pitt game? they dont sell alcohol… but people are still leaving drunk.

the fact that they dont sit outside heinz field brings me to two conclusions:

  1. the rooney’s are very powerful

  2. MADD isn’t really serious about what they do or else they’d be all over it. or they are just really dumb not to think of it.

I’m sure Wexford/McCandless/Cranberry will be in on this, too. They all get in on it when they do rolling DUI checkpoints.

I’m all for it. The less drunks and fico’s we have on the road, the better.

do not forget richland and hampton

Plenty of drunks out during happy hour also.

They all but said flat out today that it will be on Rt. 51 South, too. They said “Jefferson Hills” with a team from Jefferson Hills and Elizabeth. Where else would it be… lol.

Every time there is a report in the paper about these fucking nazi checkpoints, they always mention somethng like “and police handed out 35 additional citations for other violations.”
If these checkpoints were only about impaired drivers, then they would not be handing out tickets for burned out tail lights.
It’s about the fucking money. Always has been, and always will be. If they REALLY want to get drunks, then get in their fucking cars and look for them. They aren’t all that hard to spot.
To me, these fucking checkpoints are unreasonable search…

yup you hit it. they aren’t solving a problem they are giving everyone else a hard time. they are good money makers. they sometimes do them on a bridge so you are screwed and cant turn around… if its on a place where you can make a legal u-turn ur allowed and they can’t pull u over for it. there was a case where the guy made a u-turn and led police on chase that ended with a crash and an innocent person got killed.
